Mar 31, 2011: Spider trees
http://cellar.org/2011/spidertrees.jpg
Pakistan flooding: ten years of rain fell in one week, 20 million people were affected, 14 million needed immediate humanitarian assistance. At the height of the crisis the water spanned an area the size of England. And the water took forever to recede. And some animals had instincts to avoid it. Including spiders. Millions of spiders climbed up into the trees to escape the rising flood waters. Have a nice Thursday! |

ick. Mirkwood.

Well, so much for sleeping for the rest of my life!
|
How long before they start starving? If the spiders have taken over the trees, where do all the other bugs go?
|
They say all the mosquitoes are gone even though the place is full of standing water! The spiders et them all! So it's not so bad.
|
Yikes.
|
I'm not sure of the facts here. Spiders often do something very similar to that in mile after mile of gorse bushes around here in the summer.

We've had at least two IOTD's (both by UT) about tent caterpillars. They look enough alike in the posts and in my neighborhood to make me wonder about these.
IOTD's for 8/8/06 and 6/5/10 http://cellar.org/iotd.php?threadid=11424 http://cellar.org/iotd.php?threadid=22880 |
