Goodbye Spectrum
Watching them take a wrecking ball to the Spectrum is about as exciting as watching paint dry. I didn't watch any of the pre-game coverage, so I don't know why the decision was made to take the building down by hand rather than by blowing it up ... I guess the construction didn't lend itself to that.
The Spectrum was a Philadelphia institution. A lot of sports played there, trophies one, concerts held, and so I've heard, dope smoked. And now, piece by piece, she's being turned into a flat place for an oversized, upscale mall and entertainment complex. |

Dope. At a concert. It is to laugh. :p: |
And another piece of my youth is gone forever.
Several concerts, first Flyers game, probably a con or computer show or something like that too. |
I never stepped inside the place, but it was an institution in both Philadelphia and nationwide...it will be missed. And something tells me this Philly Live crap is going to go over about as well as that Disney thing at 8th and Market did.

Many an evening spent there at concerts or sporting events. Many a night spent outside in the lot waiting for tickets to go on sale in the am.
Too many memories, too much money spent and too many "good times" Ahh the misspent youth - what a great place. |
I'd mentioned the event the morning of to MB, who grew up around here. He was a bit excited about the wrecking ball action, but otherwise didn't react too much.
