Sausage making
 

About 2 years ago I picked up a cheap grinder from the QVC outlet. It's plastic and metal with a suction cup for gripping the counter. I was thinking about using it for veggies but when I opened it there was also a sausage attachment, what looked like 20 feet of dried sausage casing, and 3 different packages of seasoning, each good for use with a pound of meat, and string.

I'm not sure of the shelf life of the casings and seasonings, but I'm thinking of trying to make my own sausages. Does anyone have any experience with this. Also, where near Philadelphia or Wilmington can one buy replacement casings?

The best casings come from the neighbors cat.

I don't know anything about making sausage, but Jimmy Dean makes some great sausage. The sage is awesome and it is without casing. It is just in a plastic wrapper.

Does it need casing? The casing part would put me off.

Especially now that Bruce mentioned cat guts.

All sausages require casings, the same as hot dogs. There are casings that are not designed to be edible. These are peeled before eating, resulting in a 'skinless' sausage or hot dog.

Don't get me started on kishke, which proves that it's even possible to make disgusting kosher food.
