Things Change
The last time I had a relationship of any value things were simpler. If the phone (the one on the wall) rang, you had to pick it up and answer it, cuz, it might be her. If there was a knock at the door, you had to answer the door, cuz, it might be her. And that was it. And sometimes, even just those two things were just too much, and you'd just let the phone ring, or not go to the door.
Now, if the phone (the one on the wall) rings, I have to answer it (no Caller ID), cuz, it might be her. If my cell phone goes deedle-deedle-deedle, I have to grab it and look at it, cuz, it might be her, calling. If my cell phone goes dee-deedle-dee-dee, I have to grab it, cuz, it might be her, texting. I now have to check my e-mail several times a day, cuz, it might be her, e-mailing me from her phone. I have to check my e-mail also, cuz, it might be her, sending me a picture. I now have to keep my phone on all the time, cuz, it might be her, calling at anytime of day or night. Before, it was just the one phone, and the door, that's all I had to worry about. Well, that, and the occasional note under the windshield wiper (cuz, it might be her). Things change. |
And yet, in so many ways they stay the same :P
All that's changed is the degree... |
it's okay to not answer your phone once in a while. it's okay to set some limits. just talk about it
|
I'm with Cloud - no reason to change who you are and what you do.

He hasn't gotten to that point yet, he's still getting a boner every time the phone rings, 'cause it might be her. ;)
Hoping he's Mr Right, and not Mr Right Now. |
Gravdigr, this one goes out to you (with apologies to Carly Simon)
Infatuation (to the tune of Anticipation)
We can never know when the phone will ring But we obsess over it anyway, yeah And I wonder, if I missed your text, your mail or if you defriended me... (Chorus) Infatuation, in-fat-u-a-a-tion Is makin' me wait Is keeping me vi-i-i-i-igilant.... And I tell you, how queasy I feel when I'm not with you And how at night, I look but can not see-eee But I, I betrayed myself each time I got uptight When I was thinkin' about how right tonight might be Infatuation, in-fat-u-a-a-tion Is makin' me nuts Is keepin' me scannin' And tomorrow, your phone may not be in range I'm no techie and I don't know kids these days So I'll try and see if you're online right now And camp right here, Oh my god, these girls these days (My god, the girls these days) And camp right here, Oh my lord, these girls these days (My god, the girls these days) (My god, the girls these days) My god, girls these days My god... these girls these days |
begin as you mean to go on though
|
And if possible, when you reach that stage, make sure she's clear about what not answering immediately means.

Listen to 2pac, and the best hop hop song of the 90s decade
|
Perhaps, instead of "...cuz, it might be her", I should have said "cuz, I'm hoping it's her".
|
Yes. :)

I would be fucking thrilled (and more than willing) to be her Mr. Right, but, I guess I have to try and be as happy as I can be being Mr. Right Now. (Friends-with-benefits, I guess?):( |
You don't think your Mr right for certain reasons, other guys are sure they're Mr Right for their own reasons... 50/50 chance you're both wrong. You never know, the future is unwritten, so you just buy your ticket and enjoy the ride.
Well it's all right, riding around in the breeze Well it's all right, if you live the life you please Well it's all right, even if the sun don't shine Well it's all right, we're going to the end of the line |
It's always lots of fun at the begining of a relationship. The emotional highs and lows can be exhilarating and devastating depending on how things go.
I get your point though gravdigr. Things are more complicated and exhausting these days. I'm glad those days are behind me now. |
