Back to Work Gift?

The "Ladies Who Lunch" (the incarnation of our playgroup after the kids were all in school) are having potentially their final lunch this afternoon -or at least last as this group- as one of the moms has got a new full time job.

What could I take as a token "welcome back to the work place/good luck in your new job" type gift/gesture -preferably amusing/silly? Something that doesn't involve going out and buying something if at all possible -my to do list for this morning is already a mile long.

If all else fails, I'll just make a card, but I'm sure there must be something "traditional". I know it used to be that people got things like briefcases when they got their first real job, but those days are gone. A coffee mug perhaps? Perhaps I could get one of those you write on with markers and make one that says ROUND TUIT. and "I always said I'd get a job when I got a round tuit" or something like that. See, broken my first rule already *sigh*

She's totally into the 70s if that helps with ideas....

OK off to mow the lawn after I've scraped the rodent remnants from it and tossed then into someone else's yard.....

"I always wanted a (to get a paying )job, and now I've got a round tuit"

?

Something small and meaningful of your group that could be placed on one's desk might be good. Is there a particular inside-joke in your group that you could look to for inspiration? I never thought the round-tuit thing was funny. I'm not very punny, though.

The only in joke is that we meet for lunch and invariably end up talking about something really gruesome while we eat. like the person who sat on the bog so long their butt was welded to it. And people who die but aren't found for years. And projectile vomiting. All the good stuff. maybe she needs a desk copy of Oh Yuck! We idly considered compiling a book like that once, entitle (Losing your) Lunch Conversations" or something like that....

No, the tuit thing is only really amusing the first time, but this is short notice....

How about a pen?? Hehe....just joking. I just absolutely love pens, hence my suggestion. :D

Isn't the lunch pail the icon of going to work in the us.

Where am I gonna get a 70s lunch pail in the next half hour for a few bucks?

Perhaps I should take her a stack of brown bags....... maybe decorated with pics of us? Can you put them through the printer, i wonder....

Bring a camera and take a pic of the groups last meet - print and frame ....
But, I'm just a guy what the hell do I know.

I'd recommend those full page stickers for the lunch bags.

Since it is back to school time you should be able to dash into the Wallymart or supermarket to grab a lunch kettle. Don't worry about the theme, because you could put stickers on that too.

Little too schmaltzy (is that a word?), but thanks.

a copy of Smart Women Finish Rich by David Bach

Like I said - I'm a guy trying to think what a woman would want in advance.
Total setup for FAIL! But I still tried...

She'll wish she had it 10 years from now..... :bolt:

OK, thanks wolf for the in-joke thing

Seeing as she'll be brown-bagging lunch from now on rather than eating with us, I made a brown bag holder with a conversation topic selector on the front with several of the gruesome categories we're covered over the years. and I took pen, paper and glue and we added a few during lunch and after the soak in the hot tub (gotta do these things in style, ya know).

It went down very well, although I was over half an hour late because of the time it took to make... it has a strong internal frame to hold all those bags!

Here it is after the first addition and then after a few more.

I think I would like your Ladies who Lunch very much. Excellent gift.
