Oxford v Cambridge Boat Race

The 156th Oxford v Cambridge Universities Boat Race takes place this afternoon at 1630BST/1130EDT.

The course is 4miles 374yards along the Thames from Putney to Mortlake. There is a strong international flavour to both teams with three members of the Oxford crew, and two from the Cambridge crew, being American.

It's something of an obscure ritual, but it has been going on long enough not to disappear without a fight. I realise that it is unlikely to qualify as prime time viewing in the US, but American Dwellars might find it to be of passing interest........... perhaps.............. er, possibly:)

PS It does tend to add to the excitement when a team sinks.

Philadelphia is big on intercollegiate boat races.

"On the whole, I'd rather be in Philadelphia."

Yes, but it's context. He said that in response to the question, what do you want on your gravestone?
