Jim,
did you just get lucky, catching the paw swipe, or were you doing something like shining a laser pointer around to play with the cat? It's a good shot.

lumberjim 02-17-2010 12:40 PM

the cats were playing, so i thought i might get a shot of dennis' tail blurring as he lashed it back and forth. i got a couple...that suck...and one of him blurring out of the frame....but this one was just a matter of taking a lot of pics, and having one come out OK.

WTF is wrong with all of you who voted for #4? The composition doesn't suck becasue there is no composition.

Look at five more closely. the circle and the cat balance nicely

That's a very good point, assuming you are voting based primarily on composition. But I liked the motion blur of the cat's paw the most.

5 is perfect

jinx 02-17-2010 09:31 PM

Spike is just so cute... had to vote for him.

squirell nutkin 02-17-2010 10:10 PM

4 would have been better if the photog had gotten lower and shot from in front of the cat instead of obliquely.

Work with me here people!

lumberjim 02-17-2010 10:16 PM

and where are YOUR pictures?

squirell nutkin 02-17-2010 10:34 PM

The dog ate them?

lumberjim 02-17-2010 10:38 PM

well... I voted for jinx too.

squirell nutkin 02-17-2010 10:49 PM

Of course, her photo is nearly perfect. It's 99.99999999% free of need.
Yours is much better when I look at it closer and consider it's made by the husband of the woman who made the essentially perfect photo.

Plus, when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness. So you got that going for you.

also it's not so much a skillz and perfection comp as an "essence of the idea" thing. Cellhone pictures snapped on the go are just as valid as tripod $400 zoom lens jobbies planned for days. as long as they vaguely hit the category target. You can vote based on composition. I'll vote based on what i like and my vote is just as valid. so :p

classicman 02-17-2010 10:59 PM

I just couldn't not vote for #5. (is that right)
