Consumer gripes

I'd rather that manufacturers were honest with us and just raised the price rather than trying to be sneaky.

We buy dial soap in the big package. (12 bars?) I just opened a new package today and found that dial soap has a new shape. It's always had that little indent on top, but now the bottom is scooped way out too. It's insulting that businesses think we won't notice this sort of thing.

I will be looking at other brands the next time we have to buy soap.

What's the difference in the weight? It's shaped so when you grasp it, the damn thing doesn't squirt out of your hand. It's called the prison cut.

I'll post a picture tonight. I don't think it's possible to indent the shape that much and keep the same weight.

Purina does something similar with kitten chow. They sell it in smaller bags and charge as much as you would pay for a large sized bag of cat chow. I know that it doesn't cost any more to make kitten chow than it does to make cat chow. Kittens devour chow like there is no tomorrow. I figure it is costing me almost twice as much to feed two kittens as it does to feed two adult cats.

Pringles chip. Used to be something like a 6oz can for $1.00

Now, you get something like a 6.3oz can for $1.50

They made the can bigger, added like 12 more potato chips and now your're charge $.50 cents more.
..........................................................
Tuna (all of them) Used to be a 6oz can. Now it's a 5oz can and they raised the price.

..........................................................
Breakfast cereal (most of them). Used to be 14 oz for an average box. Most are between 11-12oz now and you are charged more.

..........................................................
Baileys Irish Cream - Had to pay $20.00 for my last bottle. Highway robbery.

..........................................................
Super extra large giant size wide width screaming condoms with the french tickler attached - No, just kidding.

So when they make the package smaller is that called "deflation?" ;)

He called it 'shrinkage', iirc.

This one you can fix: Saint Brendan's Irish Cream is just as good for half the price.

Haven't been able to buy a standard half gallon of ice cream in years.

BrianR 01-28-2010 03:51 PM

we still have those, complete and in the old-fashioned waxed cardboard box and all.

glatt 01-28-2010 04:12 PM

what brand?

BrianR 01-28-2010 04:45 PM

Blue Bell or Blue Bunny or something like that. A store brand too, I think Albertson's

Nirvana 01-28-2010 05:24 PM

Don't any of you buy breakfast cereal? They are the worst, skinny tall boxes with 12 ozs!
