History repeating itself

Ok, more than a decade ago, maybe two, I bought my 2nd Windows (DOS?) computer, a Packard Bell. It came with a pretty standard CRT. When I got it home and unpacked it, I realized that the CRT was designed to hold the speakers on either side. This added about 6-7 inches to the width. I owned the same particle board computer desk I own today. No problem, I took a saw and hacked off the piece that you see in the picture.

Fast forward to today. My new system came in weeks ago, along with my 23" widescreen monitor. It's been sitting downstairs waiting for my Windows 7 upgrade to come in. Yesterday, I completed the upgrade. I took the foam wrapper for the screen upstairs to check and it will not fit within the hutch.:smack: I can fit it in the existing hole if I raise it 3 inches and move it 2 inches forward. But this is closer than I am comfortable with.

I can't find my saw, so I will either be borrowing one or visiting home depot to make new alterations to my desk.

The great thing about a cheap computer desk is I don't even have to think twice about hacking it apart.

How often did your connection go down that you had to put the number for comcast on the front of the shelf?

Not too bad the last couple of years. It was a slightly rocky start. We've sort of learned the drill. Unplug cable modem and router. Reconnect modem first and then router.

Sometimes it has been on my end. Once I had to reset TCPIP settings 'netsh int up reset c:\resetlog.txt' because e-mail was getting through but I could not get a browser to connect.

I'm with lumberjim--my personal priorities put my home environment pretty high, so I'd be buying a new desk long before I took a vacation to Vegas, or bought a new computer, etc. But I realize not everyone has the potential to get stressed out by their workspace.

But on the right half of the top is a lamp and some other items. There is a middle wall panel that divides the desk in two and provides support.

I have been looking at new computer desks, but this one works for me right now, even though the screws broke on the right side of the desktop and it's being held up by duct tape.

I put the computer higher than the desk. The old computer was on it's last legs.

Mind over matter. If he don't mind, it don't matter. And it's not in the parlor where the Parson Rabbi's going to see it. :headshake

Office Depot has a good selection of wood grain multi tier desks reasonably priced. I have one I didn't pay much for.

Walmart's are cheaper but they might fall apart easier. I don't know.

This one is a $100 at W.M.
