lol lj It's couldn't hurt
ahem * stops chuckling * I used to work graveyard and couldn't sleep much during the day so I ended up taking naps throughout the day. You just can't have a life during the day. You have to rest even if you don't sleep. Sorry.I know that's not much help. It's not clinical insomnia just a wonky work schedule. Making work at night interesting is a plus too. I had a great coworker and we would laugh a lot. We kept busy. Made coffee when appropriate, moved around., ghost hunted or rather my coworker would get freaked sometimes. (it was an old building with underground tunnels and attics) So if you can make it fun at night going to work won't seem like suck a drag and you won't feel so tired. |
yup, many dwellars have isues with this. try a search of the cellar to pop up older topics.

Read a few of UG's posts.

What would happen if you read one of TW's more energetic posts backwards?

If you're drinking caffeine make sure you stop by noon. Breathe deep and slow counting the draw. Start over when you reach ten and concentrate on feeling the air change in your lungs.

I have a fair amount of advice for insomnia with a normal sleep schedule, but I've got nothing for you if you work the night shift and are supposed to sleep during the day. That goes against everything your body wants you to do. I imagine you need to trick your body. Very dark window shades. No lights on. Soothing soft music or white noise to block out the daytime sounds.
Is this schedule a permanent one, or just for a while? I would cut out any caffeine about ten hours before you plan to sleep. So maybe that means after midnight for you. |
i've always lived the night, so thats not really the issue.
the sun is not my friend. if i go to sleep at 4pm, and then stay awake all the way 42 hours later, i might find it hard to go to bed at 10 am, and then if i can't sleep and have to report for duty at midnight, well, you can imagine how exhausted i am at work. thats the kind of thing i suffered yesturday, and it showed immediatly as i dropped my 600 dollar cellphone in [a clean] toilet bowl, and as i was reaching to get it out, it flushed[automatic], anyhow i got it out after a 30 second struggle. the phone, believe it or not, is working perfectly. anyhow, you get the idea of how absent minded i got after working and working and not sleeping for a couple days. anyways, i just woke up now, so i'm back to normal. back to the topic...forget work, its not to blame for my insomnia. my caffeine intake is pretty high, but i can't say that its to blame entirely for my issues. all i can say to really describe it, is sometimes, after not sleeping for long period of times, i am unable to sleep no matter how much i try, and i go as far as 3 days without sleep even if the time to sleep is available. its not really that big of an issue, until i have to work without sleeping, than its pretty bad. lj, i don't drink. skysidhe, my work is very interesting. glatt, pitch black is very helpfull, as is music...what do you mean by white noise? |
I'm glad you have an interesting workplace and your phone is still working.
Staying up at night for me wasn't the problem either. It was sleeping. I know how the light can seep in past your eyelids and go into your brain. I bought some night shades and they helped which means I could maybe get a three or four hour nap if I was lucky. They have black out curtains too. I hope you can find some relief. The night shades worked some. They make your eyelids stay down :) |

White noise is like the hum of the TV on standby ...it's sound that prevents it being totally silent but isn't anything you can actually "listen" to which might keep you awake concentrating. You can hear it but you can't listen to it. People who are used to lots of noise can often filnd complete silence too "claustrophobic" I'm guessing you're all busy with the premieres of New Moon right now? Do you sign autographs in blood? No wonder it doesn't matter if you have a bad week at the bookies  Re you the one on the left or the right? http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3..._NEW_MOON_.jpg |
skysidhe, i'll try it out, it sounds like it might work.
monster, i'm actually watching hockey as i have money on florida, minnesota and phillie. new moon is on? they played episode one like a million times, so i figure i'll catch this new episode whenever.... the girl is pretty cool |
watching the wings here ...after a pause to replace the broken glass.

My work schedule does it to me too. It takes me a day or more to recover and then I have to do it again. I have just learned to live with it.
