Stories that make you shake your head

2.7. yeah. "they spend more time helping the people with 4.0 grade point averages." Well, duh. And they can't fix your personality.

Baahaaahaaa. But, who WOULDN'T want to hire a person who acts this way? What an idiot. Scarily indicative of the entitlement mentality, though.

Thompson says she has not hired an attorney to represent her because she cannot afford one. When she filed her complaint, she also filed a "poor person order," which exempts her from filing fees associated with the lawsuit.
Now, is she taking federal and state financial aid out of her demand for compensation? :headshake

It made me shake my head too.

Well now that they've gone and made a big deal out of it, everyone "throughout the world" is hearing about it, instead of just the tweet-buddies of some unknown lady in Chicago. I never would have known that H0riz0n r34lty thinks that sl33ping in m0ldy 4p4rtm3nts is 0k4y, but now I do.

Flint 08-04-2009 12:55 PM

Me and the 45,000 other Google hits on that phrase.

Shawnee123 08-04-2009 01:05 PM

If 45,000 people jumped off a cliff, would you jump too?

I'm tellin'...

TheMercenary 08-04-2009 06:18 PM

Cloud 08-04-2009 06:32 PM

You think only Merkins are dicks? Sorry, it's a human condition.

Aliantha 08-04-2009 06:36 PM

Yeah...there are lots of dicks all over the place.

It is true that the US has a more letigenous(sp?) society than most though. Australia is becoming more and more alike though, so don't worry. You'll be in good company soon. ;)

This is what I was thinking. My ex sis-in-law practiced law in the US and now in NZ and she has indicated that frivolous lawsuits don't happen there. I'm not sure about the laws that govern this, but my head is filled with glee at imagining a judge saying "What? Oh shut the fuck up and get out of my courtroom."

Cloud 08-04-2009 06:41 PM

We have a more litigious society than many others because we operate under the rule of law (as opposed to many countries). Society grows, becomes more complex, laws become more complex -- and so do the abuses. It's like -- you can't have good without evil.

OK, well this is the type of stupid lawsuit that has started happening over here and about which I am opposed.

A woman went to the pub, got pissed (after already being stoned at home) and when she walked out of the pub, she tripped over a speed bump in her drunken stupor and hurt her back. The pub had to pay her $250K because the stipes on the speedbump weren't white enough.

I know all the details because it happened to be the mother of an ex-boyfriend. She was just a trog and that money would have been better off going to charity than for her to spend on drugs and booze and cigarettes. Her 'sore back' didn't stop her from enjoying all those things still. Her lifestyle was not affected one little bit.

I realize what you're saying cloud, but it's just silly to clog up courtrooms with shit like this. In the end, if anything, the pub should have been ordered to pay medical costs and paint the speedbumps. Not give this woman $250k to smoke up. That's the problem. A lot of the people that enter into these lawsuits do it for all the wrong reasons.
