Question for the Brits: Swimming baths
do they still have the nasty footbath you have to go to before you can enter the pool area?
|
No. At least not at Greenwich Leisure Centre, which was my last swimming port of call.
Sadly, things like that give them an excuse to tear down perfectly good old buildings. Well, in Aylesbury at least. The old slipper baths? Gone. The part that remained through my childhood - the Vale outdoor pool? Gone. The Reg Maxwell Pool and sun terrace? Ah, see for yourselves. When this vid was made the electricity was still on. Six years after it closed. Eejits. I don't like change. Can you tell? Then again I didn't like the Reg Maxwell - I learned to swim there - barely! I hated it and used to cry when I had to go to lessons! Horrible echoey smelly, foot-plastery place. Luckily, Greenwich's was a wonderful place - listed, so they had to work round it. It was always a positive experience (before Aqua Aerobics) to lie in a dead mans float and see the curve of the original roof. |
Wow. Except for the upstairs Gym, that was just like the pool i went to when i was a kid -complete with baby cage/playpen next to the warmer shallow pool.

It was so hot in there.
And I hated, hated, hated the enclosed sense of the baby pool. And the chlorine was strong enough to hurt your eyes from the changing rooms. I'd blame my dislike of swimming on it.... 'cept you've just shown people can rise above that, you witch. I have to say though - BOTH my siblings hate swimming and are barely competant. In fact I'm alone in my love of the water. I can only doggy paddle, but I do love it. |
come and visit and I'll teach you. then you'll love it more :)

You wait til I get my tax refund.
I'll be over there like a shot. So you can slap me upside the head for not spending it wisely :) |
a visit here would be very wise ;)
