What's really in a name?

Most of you folks call me "sycamore" or "syc;" my closest friends call me "T;" and workfolk, my mother, and the woman call me by my given name.

However, there is this one guy at work that I could have sworn was calling me "Warren." I didn't give it much thought until a few minutes ago, when he again greeted me as "Warren."

Now, I don't think I "look" much like a Warren. For that matter, I don't think I look much like a Terry either. Originally, my name was supposed to be Christopher, but the sperm donor got to the birth certificate folk first.

So now, I put it to the Cellarites...what name do I look like I would or should have? :)

And for those not familiar with what I look like--here

perth 08-26-2002 01:52 PM

you look like a guy i know named gabe (gabriel).

do you know *why* he calls you warren? because it made me think of that kid from the movie "empire records".

Well, the guy that does this is an older guy...I don't think he's seen "Empire Records." I dunno why he does it...maybe he misunderstood someone...everyone else calls me by my name. *shrugs*

My one co-worker asked me why I don't correct him...I dunno...it's not really that big of a deal to me...plus I don't talk to the guy all that often. And it's better than "Hey you!" :)

my grandfather-in-law calls me jason. he knows for a fact that my name is james, but simply insists on calling me jason. dunno why. although my plan is to be a real grumpy old guy and just assign people whatever name i feel like.

Syc, I think the thread police (just bustin your chops UT) nuked your picture along with that lovely parmesan fellows posts. ;)

elSicomoro 08-26-2002 03:35 PM

Nah...it's there...at the bottom of the post. :)

juju 08-26-2002 03:44 PM

Why not just change your real name to Sycamore?

warch 08-26-2002 06:01 PM

Geez! thanks for the old link! That was some funny that I missed. What name do you look like?
Jack works. All purpose. Short with a punch. Utilitarian. But so does Syc. And Warren does have its charms.
I've been told on many occasions that I look like someone else... kind of under the radar, look familiar, "just like my friend's sister's cousin's neighbor"...good for covert operations and documentary filmmaking. I'm thinking the short, female Michael Moore. The beard, I suppose, will come with age.

elSicomoro 08-26-2002 07:29 PM

Juju: Ummm...no. That sounds a bit too hippie-like for a real name. While "Sycamore" is a big part of who I am, it's not all of me. :)

Rho thinks I look like a Terry...I disagree. Damned father of mine. Jack...I dunno...it seems like an "old-school" name now. As I mentioned before, my name was supposed to be Christopher. I can see that...or Mike...or Abdul...or Alejandro. :)

Nah, I was thinking big guy, could easily f*ck you up if you piss him off, and knows what they're talking about. Jack.

Now, let us not bullshit each other here. I am a big guy that can easily fuck you up if you piss me off, and I know what I am talking about...I could be Terry, Warren, Thabo, or Horace...and it wouldn't matter.

That will be enough chest-thumping for now. ;)

I think you are a.... Faggo McNigley.
