Libertine Vacationing
So what are the great party cities in the world?
So far, for me it's Las Vegas. But I've never been to New Orleans, Miami, etc. Where have your wildest, most fun experiences been? |
I've heard stories of some fun in New Orleans, Vegas, LA, Chicago, and quite a few places in Mexico. They're probably just rumors though. ;)

greek islands, costa del Sol, Seahouses.

I had some damn good fish and chips there. Bamburgh Castle and Lindisfarne are cool... Can't imagine partying in Seahouses though. Actually, I couldn't imagine partying at the Gate in Newcastle until I saw that. And that was less partying and more puking. |
London or Paris, if you can afford them.
However, for anyone passing through South America, I will tell you now, Lima and Buenos Aires are most certainly not party towns, and if you take an unsuspecting stroll through them it'll end up costing more than a bad run of luck in Vegas. Save your money and hop the border for Rio or Sao Paulo. |
Bryon Bay (NSW) and Airlie Beach (Qld), both small beautiful beachside towns where the population is about 50% foreign backpackers getting pissed.

If you're looking for a libertine holiday destination you have to put Amsterdam on the list. You can buy and smoke drugs legally (although in specific places, natch) there is a whole area devoted to legalised prostitution and it's one of the gay capitals of the world, with streets of gay clubs and bars.
Disclaimer: I am not planning my trip there for the reasons above. It has museums, churches and canals too. |
I had a great time in the sleepy little town of Benidorm, Spain. English was mostly spoken, my Spanish got me by everywhere else. Cheap drinks, no whores that I saw and Croc's, a bar featuring a live crocodile that did nothing but wait for someone to throw it a fish. It looked like it was hibernating but it was constantly alert. Scary the way it could hold totally still for hours and days at a time.
Vegas and Chicago naturally. Chicago for museums, culture and jazz clubs. And the best deep-dish pizza ever! Vegas, but not for gambling, I know some off off main street clubs that rock! And truck parking to boot! Haifa, Israel was very interesting. I wish I could have done more traveling. But the ever-present spectre of death from above kind of put a damper on my visit. Everyone should visit Egypt once. The stink will ruin the trip but the history will make up for it. |

Benidorm is so notorious that they made a sitcom about it. Filthy and funny - Sticky Vicky is a real act... go figure.
Egypt didn't smell when I went there. Cuba did, but we were downwind of a refinery. Many, many miles downwind, but there was a definite tang when it was in the right direction. |
New Orleans would be on that list. It doesn't matter so much as to where it is as it does as to who you are there with. Savannah does a damm good job of holding that lable during St. Pats, but so would NYC and Boston. Key West is crazy during Fantasy Fest (Google Image it) and is generally a party town year round. We just got back from the Bahamas and the group we were with were huge party people so we made a party where ever we went.
