English villagers send Google snapper packing

LONDON (AP) - You're never far from a camera in Britain, a country that has accepted the presence of millions of surveillance cameras in its streets, shopping centers and public spaces. click anywhere for link. Read last line.

I saw that. Funny, but --- I don't see how there's any sort of right to privacy on the outside of one's home.

Since the service launched, millions of Britons have gone online to look at their own houses or landmarks like the Houses of Parliament. But some government buildings and the area around the prime minister's Downing Street home have been removed.
I wonder what the significance of those Government buildings was? Probably not the tourist type buildings.

Wasn't the Ministry for Agriculture and Fisheries buildings, by any chance? :P

This should be in the New World Order thread. Google is taking over the world. You watch. :tinfoil:

Village idiots. They probably kill and eat anyone who isn't local anyway.

It's near here actually, just outside Milton Keynes.
Thank god none of the people whose homes I've taken pictures of in the Aylbesury thread have had the same reaction!

I was pretty lucky when the Google truck came through our place, it was just about 4 or 5 pm in the winter because I can tell the position of the sun was just over the top of the roof of our house and the shot of the front of my house is nothing more than a big blur of sunshine and refections back into the lense that was on top of the truck. Pure luck.

BD#1 and Son-in-Law#1 were actually photographed by Google outside his dad's house. Weird.

I've always wondered.. why the phrase "village idiot"? Like there aren't any idiots in cities?

Village Idiot vs Fool for the City.;)

Clodfobble 04-07-2009 03:56 PM

Because in a small village, there is likely to be only one. In a city, there are so many we have to refer to it as "downtown."

..and in a country we send them all to a big building, Parliament/Congress.
