gotta boil my water

I had no water in my apt this morning--they tell me a main broke Mon. nite--so when I come home this evening-

there was a note saying I have to boil my water for consumption until further notice. Ick. I've never had to do that my whole life! Luckily I have some bottled water on hand, but ick.

Boiled water tastes different. You might want to put a bit of lemon juice or something in it.

Better to do it though. You never know what contaminants might be in the water if there's been a burst pipe.

I saw the post title on the front page, with Aliantha listed as the last poster... and my immediate thought was, "she's having the baby!"

Aliantha 01-27-2009 09:43 PM

lol...not yet! A few weeks at least maybe...6 would be better.

I saw on the news today that a woman in the US had octuplettes recently. Poor woman. I can't imagine that many babies at once. 1 is plenty to worry about.

The thing with octuplets here in the U.S. is that once they're out, you get a lot of sponsorship deals with baby product companies, T.V. documentary crews, and if you play your cards right, you can get them pretty much taken care of up through college.

I ended up having to do the boil water thing a couple of times last year, but that was because of low pressure in the reservoir or something like that.

Aliantha 01-28-2009 12:42 AM

I don't think anyone's ever had octuplettes here. Not that I know of anyway. If it did happen, the parents would get a lot of help from the govt, but still, it'd have to fall short of what you'd need. You wouldn't sleep for years for starters. lol

Here extreme multiple births are usually the result of voluntary fertility treatments, and a decision on the part of the parents not to selectively abort. It's not the "miracle" of the Dionne Quints these days. It's science, pure and simple.

Apparently they aren't releasing a lot of information about this batch, other than the mother's somewhat wacky pronouncement that she intends to breast feed all of them. You can only get so much secretion from a gland, you know.

Yeah...I just heard that on our news here 10 mins ago. My reaction was to wonder if her boobs were at least as big as Pookas. lol

I thought the same thing!

:)

According to the news, the eighth was a "surprise" - they only thought there were seven!

This mom could have raised 6 more, in addition to the 2 kids shown here.
We haven't had to boil water before, but I recall the weird taste of the water after a break in the line. Enjoy that!

xoxoxoBruce 01-28-2009 08:18 AM

When there's a water main break affecting loads of people, the guys making the repair are working with all possible haste to get it back in service. They don't even have time to climb out of that ditch to pee... boil the water.;)
