Jan 7, 2009: Bubbles
Bubbles, no not the stripper from that party you don't remember much of.
Soap bubbles that you blow with that little ring thingy, but frozen. These have been making the rounds of all the cool sites so the Cellar, being the coolest site, must have them too. I'm surprised the water with soap in it will freeze, but evidently the bubble consists of water with a soap coating inside and out. And if it's cold enough, although they don't say how cold, the bubble freezes in mid air. http://cellar.org/2008/bubbles1.jpg It must have been hard to take these pictures because they won't sit still for a portrait... and they do break like any bubble, only more dramatically. http://cellar.org/2008/bubbles2.jpg Link |
They would freeze really fast as they have a huge volume verses mass of water.

The last image seems to have a frosty tree in the background, and maybe that's just plywood attached to someone's deck railing? If so, then the bubbles would appear to freeze at a naturally occurring temperature vs. only in some insane lab setup...

I have a sudden urge to listen to the BeeGees.
Neat pics! |
I wonder if that would work in our deep freeze?
Very cool |

I am going to have to get a bottle of bubbles to keep at work in the event of a freezing cold night.
Anybody know where you can get bubbles in the dead of winter? (and no, I don't need the recipe ... I'm a ready-made kind of woman) |
Walgreens.

Sweet. I pass one on the way to work. Now to figure out where in the office to hide them so they'll be at the ready ...

<voice of> In amongst the cleaning supplies. No one ever goes there. </experience>

go to the dollar store and get the party favors bubbles -they're tiny and easy to hide and you can put then in several locations in case one gets discovered or you have a bubble emergency.
or........ could you introduce them as a "calming device" for antsy patients? the best hiding places are always in plain view |
Why are you late? I suppose you're going to say you were out blowing bubbles too.
No, I am Bubbles. |
