Choose the sex of your child

If you were paying for IVF and you had the option of choosing the sex of your child, would you or do you think it's wrong?

Me being who I am in my current situation, I wouldn't choose. I have one of each and wouldn't have a preference as to which one I got next.

But if this IVF treatment were my one shot, and I couldn't afford another, I might choose a girl, because statistically girl fetuses are stronger than boys and more likely to survive.

But they almost never do just one embryo with IVF, it's usually 2-3. So in that situation I'd probably go with one of each.

To answer the morality question, I don't think choosing in and of itself is wrong, because people can have a variety of reasons for preferring one gender over another. But I would venture to say that if you only want a child of one gender and would not want a baby if you knew you were having the other gender, perhaps you ought to reconsider your motives in becoming a parent.

For our first kid, I didn't care. We got a girl. I was very happy. For our second kid, I wanted a boy, just to even things out. If we could have chosen, I would have. As it turned out, we got a boy. I was very happy. If we got a girl, I probably would have been happy too.

I said I wouldn't choose but I don't have a problem with it. I just really enjoyed the time between "we're pregnant" and "it's a ____!" The guessing was fun.

Although I might be tempted to say give me a boy. I do have to fill out a soccer team after all and I don't want my girl to show the boys up.
