Sorry For My Absence
Since I'm a newbie, I doubt anyone missed me, but I've missed you guys. My absence was unintentional.... I hope everyone's doing well, we tend to take for granted things like that don't we?
I had a small stroke thing going on. Way too young for that sort of thing so I have to spend Monday getting tests ran at the hospital. I'll be more active posting as I'm able. |
WTF, it was only a small stroke, surely you could have made a small post. :haha:
Now cut that shit out and get back here, yahear. |
Shit Ruminator, that sounds scary. Hope you're feeling stronger.
And welcome back :) |
Hope you're ok, Ruminator.
(What kind of "stroke" are we talking here? ;) Reminds me a little of el Bandito, a newbie poster from New Zealand in late 2007, who shared some symptoms with us which were indicative of a heart problem. We bullied him into going to a doctor, but never heard back. I emailed him via the cellar, but got no response. Did he ever pop back? |
Small or not, a stroke is serious. I hope you're doing okay. I hope you had immediate medical attention when you had that stroke. A friend's mother had a small stroke recently too. Luckily, her kids were there when she started having it and called 911. A person gets admitted faster if the ambulance brings you in. Anyways, she's doing fine now. My point is that she had immediate care.
So, Ruminator, let us know of your progress and hopefully you're back to normal. And take care of your health. We hope to see here for a long time. :) |
Thanks everyone. It turns out it was a "mini stroke", a TIA. Bring it on Zen, and others. :D
Yes, I went to the hospital emergency room within the hour. Then yesterday was a busy day. Back to the hospital for tests. The results, so far are that all tests came back with clear results- EKG, Cathscan, brain MRI normal, carotids have no blockage. :thumb2: One result still out- an ultrasound of my heart. But the cause is still unknown, which is somewhat troubling... |
If they can't find the cause then I wouldn't worry too much. I spent the night in the hospital a few months ago. Felt like my lungs were filled with razor blades - couldn't breathe more than a teaspoon of air at a time.
All tests negative - last I heard of it. I'm not a doc but when something happens but they can't find it I just figure whatever caused it is gone. In your case, who knows - could have been one of those soft clots that float around for years before getting wedged in and causing a problem. It was probably over when you left the hospital. Just to be on the safe side, however, it may not be a bad idea and might make you feel safer to carry around a nitro tab or two as a precaution. |
And a bottle of Tequila in case you want to thin your blood in a hurry.:haha:
|
Actually, that's a good point Bruce: Ruminator, have you considered/talked to your doctor about taking a daily dose of aspirin? I can't be entirely sure, but I remember reading somewhere that it's advisable for people at risk of strokes because it thins the blood and can prevent clots.
|
Rumi, strokes can also be caused by bleeds in the brain -- something that would directly contradict daily aspirin. Definitely get your medical team's opinions before starting any such treatment.
|
I think anything like that has to be in conjunction with medical advice really.
|
You're a tough Ohioan! Hope you're feeling better, rumi.
|
Man Beestie, I hope that didn't take long to go away.
Bruce, I'll save the worm for you. Blech! :greenface Dana and Pie, all of what you each mentioned was important and factored in my treatment. Fortunately, the MRI came back negative/ normal revealing no bleeding occurred. So yep, my Dr. started me on Plavix daily and a low dose aspirin. Shawnee, you got that right! Right now I feel like we live in Alaska and its not even winter yet....:D |
Ruminator, I think you have a better excuse than most who wander away, thanks for finding your way back! Hope that you continue to do well.
