Spam

Quite frankly, I'm speechless.

From here

Quote:

AUSTIN, Minn. — The economy is in tatters and, for millions of people, the future is uncertain. But for some employees at the Hormel Foods Corporation plant here, times have never been better. They are working at a furious pace and piling up all the overtime they want.
Quote:

Through war and recession, Americans have turned to the glistening canned product from Hormel as a way to save money while still putting something that resembles meat on the table. Now, in a sign of the times, it is happening again, and Hormel is cranking out as much Spam as its workers can produce.
In a factory that abuts Interstate 90, two shifts of workers have been making Spam seven days a week since July, and they have been told that the relentless work schedule will continue indefinitely.
Oh the humanity.....:headshake

The company I used to work for had a contract with Hormel and one of our programmers got sent to Austin, MN. They loaned him a car with a picture of a pig on it and he had to convince everyone he met that he wasn't a hog buyer.

Sure, the same reason that Campbell's soup stock went up when the rest of the market tanked. ;)

I like campbells soup. Not so keen on spam except when we go camping. For some reason it tastes good then.

I'm putting all my investments in Soylent Green. I think it will be the next big thing.

Spam, Spam, Spam, baked beans, and Spam...

(Can''t believe I posted it first!)

I like Spam.

Spam Musubi. It's Hawaiian, and looks exactly like giant sushi. A ball of sticky rice, likely sushi rice proper, a quarter to a third of an entire can's worth of Spam laid atop this in a thickish slab, the whole held together with a belt of nori, belted sushi style.

Of the neoSpams, I like the Smoked best.

Me too man. I developed a taste for it while dealing craps at the California Hotel in downtown Las Vegas. They cater mainly to Hawaiians. Nobody loves spam more than them.

I make a pretty good spam fried rice.

lumberjim 11-20-2008 06:31 PM

Radar 11-20-2008 06:51 PM

I'll have the lobster thermidor aux crevettes with a mornay sauce served in the provencale manner with shallots and aubergines, garnished with truffle pate, brandy and with a fried egg on top and Spam.

Perry Winkle 11-21-2008 06:19 AM

I've never had Spam and I hope I'm never forced into a situation where only meatish options are available.

Flint 11-21-2008 07:39 AM

Spam isn't bad...fried-up crispy, in little strips, on a "BLT" type sandwich. Lots of mayo.

sweetwater 11-21-2008 07:51 AM

We saw Spamalot and, as a joke, bought one of the classic packaged can. And then we tried it because it was there. Now we keep a can around.

fried spam is good, especially cooked up with some potatoes in a skillet.
