Best and most distinctive aren't necessarily the same thing. For example, Peter Garrett (Midnight Oil) and Dave Matthews are quite distinctive, but they wouldn't be in my best-of list.

I can't pick just one, but Karen Carpenter would definitely be up there...they say she had perfect pitch.

I wish Tarja Turunen was on the list. She is my fave! I ended up voting for Johnny Cash

I couldn't tell you which one is the best, but I'd like to register an anti-vote for Bob Dylan. His voice makes my bowels weak. Only other people should be allowed to sing his songs.

Better than late Dylan, I'll agree, but still irritating. There's no power behind it, no diaphragm. It's all throat.

Robert Plant for his amazing masterful musicality.

Cash is distinctive, and a close second.

Of those on the list, I had to go with Chris Cornell. I idolized him in high school...Goddamn, that dude can wail. Listening to "Slaves & Bulldozers" by Soundgarden still gives me chills.
