Snipe Hunting

We're going camping this weekend. Which is really weird because since we've had power outages all week, it's kind of like we've been camping at home. ;)

But anyway...we have some impressionable young folks along with us this upcoming weekend and so one of the activities we have scheduled is a snipe hunt. You know what that is, right? You wait till dark, then go on a night hike in the woods. No flashlights; that scares the snipes. Just bring a bag, step quietly and listen.

My kids went snipe hunting last year at this same event and are really looking forward to helping the new kids along their...um...their odyssey. :D

Anybody else been huntin' snipes?

Never fell for it. I didn't believe in Jackalopes either. BTW:they're real.

Out on our land, there are Gyeguuders, a vicious beast! Rumor has it that they are so angry because they have three heads and only one @sshole.

I never heard of snipe hunting until college. A girl from Buffalo, who asked (on a trip to Lake Cumberland) if lightning bugs bite, told me about it.

I'm gullible. I wanted to go.

I sometimes meet snipe on the road when I'm driving home at night. They seem quite dozy about light and frequently loiter in the road in the headlights a little too long. Also my cats have brought home one or two before now.

I prefer to buy my snipe at the supermarket. They come already filleted and deboned, on a little styrofoam tray, all wrapped up in plastic wrap.

I know where my meat comes from, but hey, I'm a modern woman. I don't want to go through the hassle. Time is money.

Down here, it's not the snipe, it's the drop bears you've got to watch out for. Fearsome beasts.

I went to that link, and it didn't even mention Jackalopes. Around here, this is the time to stay out of the corn fields because of the fierce Corn Weevils. Devastating long teeth.

Sorry spud, snipes are real.

Now this brings back an ancient memory!

My virgin snipe hunting trip occurred when I was in the Boy Scouts during a weekend camping trip. ;)

Thanks for the memory. Too  .
