2-hour outage today
Apparently the switch that I have in place might be acting up. The ISP says the router port for the server shut down, which it can do automatically if it detects a lot of errors. This may just be a loose connection but it's also possible it's the switch. The good news is that I have a replacement ready in case this happens again. The bad news is that the ISP is an hour away. Hopefully it's nothing.

I, too, hope for nothing.
|
funny, my hope usually amounts to nothing.
|
if it happens again......meet up at the lumbernets!
|
The outage just happened again. I will be driving down there and replacing the switch this afternoon.

Ain't it the trute?

UT is a god amongst mere virtual mortals.

In other words, he gets to do the shopping, cooking and wash the dishes. ;)

Update: switch not needed to be replaced. Tech needed to be replaced. They were doing troubleshooting and messed up our settings. The errors that the router was showing were fixed by reseating ethernet cables. Everything looks good for now.
|
Did you have to drive two hours to deal with that? Grrrr.....

PEBCAK. So sorry, UT. |
I didn't have to drive down there. After they said they were troubleshooting, they suggested that it wasn't necessary to replace the switch.
BUT!!! Just now we have just had another 15 minute outage, which again happened in late morning EST, and I am waiting to hear WTF. |
The switch was failing. It is now replaced.
Do things seem snappier? Because they shouldn't. We were only getting 10MB and not the expected 100MB out of the old switch. But we only get 10MB to the outside world anyway, so! Doesn't matter how big the pipes are in the building, if there's only a 1" pipe to the road we'll only get 1" worth of water. |
stop with all this 1" talk. you're making me self conscious.
