I'm sure the restaurant will become immensely popular once people realize their stance on cancer supporters.
[/sarcasm] |
but why won't she wear a wig? it may be shocking to customers when the waitress come up to their table bald. although i don't agree with the owners decisions, i do see their point.
|
It's called principle. AKA I'm not your sheep or trained monkey.
Going bald as a cancer awareness tool does not, I'm sure, make it any easier for the person who is doing so to shave themselves bald. We are a society all about hair. I envision going up to a table and noticing the looks, and explaining why I've done what I've done. I then envision the customers vastly approving (considering how few of us have been untouched by cancer in our lives and the lives of friends, family, and others) or not approving, which means they're probably assholes who are going to bitch about their hollandaise sauce anyway. |
At least they won't have to worry about getting a hair in their soup.
|
Waiter, what's that hair doing in my soup?
The backstroke. Oh, wrong joke. |
From the Canadian Press:
Owner and chef Dan Hilliard defended his decision, saying the restaurant has certain standards and that he requires employees keep their hair at a reasonable length. Hilliard said Thursday Fearnall was still on the payroll and can return to work once she grows her hair back. Then later: A week after losing her job because she arrived for work with a shaved head in support of cancer research, an Ontario woman has been offered an apology. But Stacey Fearnall will have to read about it in the newspaper. "I'm glad they finally made a statement in the media and I'm glad its over," Fearnall said Monday. When asked if she had been contacted or had even seen the response from her former employers, Fearnall offered a stoic: "No." Here's the apology: Dan Hilliard, the owner of Nathaniel's Restaurant in Owen Sound, Ont., on Monday offered his "sincere apologies to Mrs. Fearnall, the Canadian Cancer Society, Cops for Cancer and the public, for failing to resolve the issue of Mrs. Fearnall shaving her head for Cops for Cancer, prior to Mrs. Fearnall contacting the media." Which to me looks like, "We're very sorry we got caught being asshats." |
I agree, dar512.
I applaud her for saying she wouldn't go back. She also said the hubbub got $2000 more in donations. One man's asshat is another cause's impetus. |
Lt. Ilia to the bridge . . . .
All the world's a stage. No, really, all the fucking world is a stage, and you're in the spotlight. People can now call you an asshat from around the world when you do something that, in retrospect, is bad publicity. |
People all around us are getting called on their asshattedness thanks to the interwebz. Eh, it brings good and bad...
|
How the hell can you not see that sort of thing coming? Cancer is one of those things where you just know you're gonna get an ass whuppin if you don't support the fight against it.
|
True, none of us are immune to the threat. Who is anyone to pooh-pooh someone trying to take some kind of stand, to make at least a small contribution, because it offends their sensibilities while they're eating their pan roasted monkfish in a black truffle emulsion?
|
certain standards? what's wrong with being bald?
|
Interesting. You know, I've gotten a LOT of financial support from charity donations (PALS is the group here) they paid (pay) for: my wig and my ongoing psychologist who is a specialist in treating women with breast cancer. She IS NOT cheap but PALS pays for me to see her every two weeks. Without these kinds of donations...a lot of people, including me, would be in some very dire straits. The owner won't "get it" until his time comes. And, his time WILL come. Karma. Doesn't he watch "My Name is Earl" ?
:) |
1) People suck.
2) Its all about the money. 3) I have no money. 4) I'm glad I'm not a person. How does anyone rise to the position of king mucky muck chef and be so goddamn stupid? |
