Cellar National Anthem Contest

Considering the discussion about which celebrities national anthems, I thought it might be nice to have a Cellar National Anthem contest.

I have created youtube account cellardotorg. PM me for the password.

Sing the national anthem. Non-US citizens can sing their home country's anthem or the US anthem.

Post to Youtube and link in this thread. You can use your own youtube account or create it under the Cellar account.

Let the fun begin.

P.S. I will be creating mine when I have access to my main computer.

oh that's so funny. I was just questioning my son's patriotism for not knowing the words to it!
* tounge in cheek* of course, in a teasing way because who does!? It will be nice to see :)

*BUMP* of course noboday is running for office so your patiotism will not be called into question.

I hope there are some takers!

As we're in different timeframes I posted to my account.

It's an over-blown version with lighting effects provided by laptop. Intended for funsies, do not attempt to use as a prophelactic.

Damn! We done win medals in 1984 you know!
Still. Glad to be reminded the Cellar is good for somthing.

skysidhe 05-04-2008 06:19 PM

1984? I was going back to 1831 when our patriots stole the melody WAY before medals. :)

I guess I am not being clear sorry.

My Country, 'Tis of Thee", also known as "America", is an American patriotic song, whose lyrics were written by Samuel Francis Smith. The melody was derived from the British national anthem, God Save the King or Queen, by way of a German adaptation. The song served as a de facto national anthem of the United States for much of the 19th century.

Sorry, I was trying to be (mildly) amusing.

The 1984 Olympics were held in America, which is generally held to be quite an insular country, and the Soviet bloc abstained, so Britain had quite a good haul. Therefore in the sumer of 84 even merkins had a chance to hear our anthem.

I couldn't manage yours anyway - very stirring but takes a super-human to get that range!

skysidhe 05-04-2008 06:47 PM

ok I'm a :dunce:

You did a great! You have a good voice SG.

Sundae 05-04-2008 06:55 PM

You're not a dunce Sky.
And btw I think I covered about 4 different keys in 30 seconds.

Without being anti-American, the fact is your country is often removed (by design) from the rest of the world. But it fulfills every vacation scenario possible, so many Europeans make the pilgrimage.

So we know your anthem, flag, big cities, resorts etc.
And ours am secret! Bwahahahahahahaaaaaaa!

Seriously - just ask.

richlevy 05-04-2008 06:59 PM

Well, here's mine. I'd like to wait until my throat stops feeling scratchy, but between an extended allergy season and then cold season, that would be never.

I envy the Brits, Canadians, and Aussies for their national anthems. Ours is a real ***ch to sing. There's a reason Kate Smith sang 'God Bless America' and not the 'Star Spangled Banner' at Flyers games.;)

When I was in high school I was watching Victory on HBO. It centered around a soccer game between allied POWs and their German guards. There was a band playing "Deutschland, Deutschland uber alles" before the game. I had only heard the tune from the Lutheran hymnal I grew up with, so I couldn't figure out why they'd be playing it!

skysidhe 05-04-2008 10:17 PM

You did wonderful Rich! It is one hard song to sing and I don't think anyone could do it better.
