Rockband

This game owns.

Best party game ever made.
Me and my roommates will not get any school work done.
We'll probably have to put a limit on when friends and bros are allowed in the house so: 1. We can get our shit done, 2. We can play ourselves!

Game over, 2nd semester.
Anyone else played it?

I've never played it but I'm sure I will sometime this semester since I have a few friends that have guitar hero and will probably get this. Looks fun though.

My drummer should get this so he can learn how to keep a beat....

pierce it is amazing. When you act as a band you need to time your overdrive/star powers to enhance the score, use overdrive to save failed band mates, and damn it's just helluva lotta fun rockin' out together. Made me lose 90 more bucks for Guitar Hero II for the extra guitar for the bass part, the Rockband game package itself was already 170! $260 for a lower GPA and worse studying habits. Damnit.

The drums are my part, recently was able to pass "Maps" by The Yeah Yeah Yeahs on expert, 93%. The drum part is the best part, I think, because it operates the most like a real drumset.

Pierce, play it ASAP. Video game enthusiasts, play it ASAP.

I forget if my roommate was thinking of getting it or not so I'll see when I'll be able to play it. If not, I think my one of my other friends will get anyways so I'll have that option.

I hold a traditional Christmas party for some friends in the industry called "The 80 Proof Christmas." It's for every musician who gets completely burned out this time of year, and just needs to get hammered.

You haven't seen awesome until you've seen guys who get paid $270 an hour to play guitar SUCK!!!! at Guitar Hero.

It was the best night ever.

I know, every guy I know that is really good at real guitar sucks at guitar hero. It sorta makes sense because they are totally different but still weird since you would think they could make the transition.

South Park even notices it.

The only guy who completely rocked it is a professional piano accompanist - he plays all of these intense modern pieces with violinists, etc. He just stood there for about five minutes, head cocked to the side, watching us play, then picked up a controller and tore it up.

I think the disconnect is in the lag time in the triggers. You have to play ahead of the beat. That's what I hear, I've never actually played one of these things. I would probably be screwed, with my ingrained behind-the-beat Bohnam/Motown imitation beat displacement.

@smooth: Your pro piano guy probably mapped out the requisite displacement in his mind before diving in, as in adjusting to a quirky conductor.

As far as actual "practice" for musicians, on a game console, I have had some success with Nintendo Wii, such as tennis or the home run workout, played with my weaker left hand. As a drummer, I'm always looking to workout my stupider left limbs.
