December 3, 2007: Card-stacking record broken
http://cellar.org/2007/cardstackrecord_2007.jpg
This gentleman is named Bryan Berg, and he is generally acknowledged to be the world champion at building houses of cards, though "house" has not applied to his work since he was a child. In fact, breaking his own records has become something he gets commissioned to do as an artist. And he's just done it again with the structure above, which is 25 feet, 9.5 inches. It contains approximately 1,800 decks of cards and no glue, tape, or adhesive tricks of any kind. He built it over a period of 5 weeks this summer for the Texas State Fair in Dallas, TX. Many more cool structures, plus the morbidly satisfying videos of knocking them down can be seen at his website here. |

I liked reading his FAQ and seeing his simple self-reinforcing grid of cards he uses to make these. It looks pretty fun and easy to do. He makes a living at this!

Would be funny if Ty Pennington came along, knocked it down and built a new one in 7 days. :-)
