What to buy?

I need advice here.

Most credit card companies want you to use their card at least once a year to keep it active...particularly if it is generally balance-free. Well, that time of year has come for my emergency credit card, and so I have to spend $100 on it by the end of July.

Of course, I buy nothing extravagant. Just a few CDs or such. This year, I might buy some patio furniture, which isn't much. But I'll certainly buy at least 2 CDs. One I'm pretty likely to buy is the new Rush CD. But I need recommendations for another.

Opinions? Speak. :)

How about Dream Theater's Scenes from a Memory? It's very good, if you like Progressive Rock. You can listen to portions of it on amazon's site, but the main appeal of it to me is the epic story.

Or perhaps some more RAM, or a tv card?

iMac.

juju 06-02-2002 05:42 PM

LOL. You can NOT buy an iMac for $100.

At this point, I'm not adding anything to my current computer. It's archaic, and I want to buy a Mac later this year.

Although...I DO need a new b/w cartridge for my printer. :)

My opinion is that if you're out-of-work, you have no discretionary income. You might want to get those printer cartridges, in case you need to print resumes for some neanderthal outfit that wants them on dead trees.

But why not just put your next couple of trips to the grocery store on the credit card? Resist the temptation to buy yourself "cheer up" presents, you can buy CDs later to celebrate getting hired.

The groceries idea is a good one...thanks Maggie. :)

I need to double-check w/me mum...apparently, she was nice enough to buy me a b/w AND a color cartridge for my inkjet, but I only got the color one. I'll call her tomorrow.

I spent a little on the card today...just for gas and a few snacks for the trip. That jaunt was money well-spent. :) And I got to see that crazy fire on the GSP...more in another thread.

The eMac may be a practical alternative to the new iMac.

eMac = the CRT iMac, next generation.

I figure that despite all their education rhetoric, that they always had a CRT iMac as a backup plan in case the LCD one proved too expensive.

dave 06-05-2002 01:15 PM

The eMac is still a pretty slick little box. Jenni and I have been eyeing one for her next computer (as her iMac DV is getting kinda dated), and we're going to go play with one tonight (Apple store in the same mall that she works in). All in all, it's a pretty decent machine at an appealing price.

It's going to either be a new iMac or the eMac, so... we're trying to decide which one fits her better. Once she has played with both of 'em, I guess we'll know. :)

I think I'm going with the iMac. I am hooked on all the capabilities it offers. I think the price is reasonable.

The minute I mentioned wanting to buy an iMac, Dave's telling me about all the upgrades I should get right away and what not. At the Apple Store, he is a man-child, like a kid at the candy store for the first time. He knows I'm going to turn to him for everything Mac once I buy it. :)

And voila! It arrived today. The printer is happy...I'm happy...Jesus is happy. :)
