Someone caved in
You know that irritating "Click to activate this control" crap that happens in Internet Explorer? Yes yes, Firefox is eight hundred milllion times superior, blah blah blah... Remember how it didn't always used to be there?
Basically it happened because a company, Eolas, was granted a patent on, in layman's terms, the ability to load something directly without the user having to click on it like that. They then sued Microsoft and said they owed Eolas licensing fees. Microsoft said, "Screw you. Just watch us make millions of people click their screens instead."
Well it's a closely guarded secret who finally caved--either Microsoft agreed to pay, or Eolas agreed to accept a much lower licensing fee--but soon the irritating "feature" will be rolled back to its previous no-click functionality.
