Any programmers here need some extra cash?

I need a custom standalone database program to track my trip information. It needs to be searchable on several areas and display results in ordered format.

This should be a piece of cake for anyone fluent in C++, I think.

My database knowlege stopped at Dbase II.

More details for interested parties.

If you have my number already, call me. Emails and posts will be answered as soon as possible but expect long delays due to spotty internet access and a dying laptop.

The Cellar - a trucker's best friend ?

Let's hope so.

Don't think small. If the software works for you, you might be able to sell it to other truckers.

Heck, if you gave them commissions, you could build a sales force out of truck stop hookers.

Rich, that is a a good idea. If I own the copyright, I can sell to my hearts' content.

So, who can write a simple database? I'm too rusty in COBOL and never got around to C.

The OS will be Linux of some flavor.

Any takers?

Now that Linux has been mentioned, I'm interested.

Do you want a text-mode, browser-/web-based, or full-fledged GUI application?

BrianR 10-31-2007 09:38 AM

text only is all I need. Fancy bells and whistles were Microsoft's mistake.

All I need to do is replace my trip notebook. It has details of my trips: number, trailer number and license, shipper and consignee addresses, directions etc.

I want to be able to save all that data (I can mail samples of the page or try to describe the size of the various fields) and search/order it by any given field.

Example: I am assigned a load coming out of Channahon, IL drop yard and going to North Lima, OH. I remember having been to that consignee before but can't remember their name. So I search for all trips destined for North Lima OH. A list should pop up showing three trips in the last two years. I choose the customer's name from the two that are there and up comes that page, complete with the directions I used last time and my notes on parking and local truck stops.

See?

I can hook you up with a freeware GUI that uses SQL 2005 Express. It does about 50 times more shit than you need it to do but is customizable down to your needs.

Holla back.

...but with FileMaker Pro you can probably roll your own starting with a basic Client Contact database template.

I do not have the time to figure out the formatting myself and my skilz are less-than-current.
