What weird shit do you covet/collect?
After AJ's little thread about his weird pig fetish, I thought it time the rest of us fessed up to our funky little collections.
I collect Betty Boop stuff, weird Goth things and Robbie Williams memorabilia. My Mum collects all things chickens. Figurines, rugs, stuffed versions and the real two legged variety. Oh, I also just collect ugly things that appeal to me :) |
I don't know if it's a fetish...AJ's pig thing. Isn't a fetish something sexual usually? lol
AJ, are you turned on by pics of pigs and their bits? My sis in law does collect ornamental pigs. She even wants to get one for a pet. I advised her not to, on the grounds that it's likely to get all cooked and eaten. I don't collect anything except children at the moment. Very boring. |
Every year I get a new Disney Jacket, it's weird I know. I have a Pooh Bear jean jacket w/hood, Tigger jean jacket, Grumpy jacket (grey flannel like w/black leather sleeves) and last year I got a Pirates of the Caribbean jacket.
One more thing - I also collect "Eyeore" (stuffed kind) |
Animal figurines made of malachite

How John managed to get them all on one page is ... astonishing..... |
Typewriters. Old typewriters...it used to be electric ones too...But now it's just manual antiques. They are getting more and more expensive, and now I have to save to get my new one from a dealer who is stingy with them. First I have to talk to him into it...and then it will be pricey. He owns one of the last typewriter stores in the united states...and it just so happens to be in the town right next to me.
Now that this is brought up....if you are getting rid of one pm me first. Some people just throw them out or donate them. They are hard to ship because of the weight...but I will pay for shipping costs and for the typewriter itself if it is a good deal. I deal with typewriters that don't function if they are a model and brand I like, but I prefer ones that are still functional. Wow. I just bored myself. Welcome to my particular brand of geekdom. :) |

I think the old typewriters is very interesting. I love old stuff like that, once state of the art. Very cool.

I'm with the Denver Art Musuem on this one. They used to have an exhibit that displayed them as art. They are art to me, and the lettering they produce is also very sexy.....with just the right paper..oooh. I'm a freak. I'll just say it.
:) I think this stems from my lithographia so it just gets weirder from there.... Yes, I have developed relationships with each of my typewriters, and the ones I haven't, well.....they get tossed. Zen...yes, please see if you still have it around...that one sounds very interesting. I love Royals, as my manual "portable" Royal Safari from the 60's happens to be my favorite. I have ones that are of greater value but that little Royal still has my heart. That said....Yes, my husband knew about all of this before he married me. :D |
typewriters .... post counts .... weighs up .... :)

I wouldn't really say I collect watches, because I consider a collector to be someone who has specific knowledge, looks for certain makes and models, knows which ones are valuable and which are junk, etc., but I have a lot of watches. My wife and I, between us, have 40 or 50 watches, mostly mechanical (manual or automatic wind, but without batteries). I do have 5 or 6 watches that are really computers, but those don't count.
I posted a picture of one pocket watch in the "What's the oldest thing you own?" thread. The nice thing about collecting watches is that they don't take up much room, as opposed to typewriters, motorcycles or full-size train cars. |
I collect masonic items.
And human skulls. If the feds ever raid my place, you'll see me on the news. "Top story of the day - Masonic Mass Murderer Captured - News at 11" At least I know I'll make it to Fark, Rotten, and Ogrish. |
I collect dust.
|
I collect hard skin. I keep it on my feet.
|
I've got all sorts of junk, but one of my favorite collections are my handbags. Many of them are beaded, a few are vintage, and some just have an interesting design. I also have a nice collection of cocktail dresses from the 50's and 60's.
