Are you ready for Venezuela Time?
Hugo Chavez was planning to set the clock one half-hour forward, then back, oh whatever, on Monday.
Having succeeded in totally confusing the folks, Chavez says now it is to be implemented in January. I guess they weren't quite ready for Venezuela Time either. |
A half hour? Not an hour? Why not 24 minutes, to really mess people up.

Whenever the question of children leaving the house when its still dark, comes up....it's always suggested that we change our clock settings.....surely changing the school's start time would make more sense?
|
We have Daylight Savings Time. Although we "spring forward" and "fall back" an hour (which makes infinite sense over half an hour) I never know if we are in Daylight Savings Time or Eastern Standard Time; I don't know which time is which!

I am probably showing my ignorance here, but did the US set up the world's time zones?

yeah, I was being too lazy to look it up. So, Hugo-baby is blaming the US and wants to move against anything we might have started. that is not childish at all.

Venezuela Time?.....No Arizona Time...
Thank god Arizona told Washington and the rest of the US to stick it regarding Daylight Slaving Time.
We don't spring forward or fall back..... We just stay on Mountain Standard Time.....All the time.... We have plenty of daylight ....all the time.....(Except night time of course then we have plenty of dark) |
I'm with Arizona on this one. Chavez is a nutter as was FDR.

Politically motivated time zones are pretty common. South Australia is 30 minutes (and 25 years) behind the eastern states of Australia. Nepal is 15 minutes ahead of India. Just to be different.
|
One of the main reason that time zones were set at hourly segments was so that the trains could move though time zones and still keep the minuets accurate.
Furthermore, daylight saving time is pointless it doesn't save energy because we use the same amount be it in the morning or at night. |
I think it's continued because people like the extra daylight for outside activities in the evening.
The energy savings is politic-speak. |
Perhaps, I rather enjoy my sleep and would trade some of a day for more night. Plus all the really fun things happen at night:D
