British tornados

Quote:

(CNN) -- Tornadoes ripped across southern and central Britain on Monday, tearing tiles off roofs and uprooting trees, Meteorological officals said.

Farnborough in Hampshire, Luton in Bedfordshire, Nuneaton in the West Midlands, and Northampton were among the affected areas, the UK Press Association reported.

In Farnborough, 20 homes were hit by a tornado, which pulled a roof off a garage and uprooted trees, firefighters said.

At around 0645 GMT a tornado tore through Luton, north of London, ripping up gardens and roof tiles.

A tornado hit Northampton just before 0600 GMT, uprooting trees and causing chaos on the roads, the Northampton Chronicle and Echo reported.

A spokeswoman for the UK's Meteorological Office said weather conditions at the time of the storms were conducive to tornadoes.

"The weather system that we are going through at the moment -- very windy with heavy rain -- is traveling across the country," she told the Press Association.

Any of you affected by this?

Nope, missed me completely
My parents live roughly between Luton & Northampton, but off by many miles as we Brits judge distance (anything over 10 miles away requires an overnight stay)

No tornados in the North...but lot of rain and blustery winds.

:D Funny you would say that. When our friends come over from the UK they can't believe how long we drive to do things for a day. 2 or 3 hours one way for a rugby match, and they are like "WTF? We staying over night?". "Ummm no." :D

It was raining in Woolwich this morning. I slipped over in front of a group of young lads with cans of beer in their hands. It was 09.30.

A man standing with them (older, sans beer) rushed to help me up and gave a right telling off to those who laughed. Which of course made me feel like I was going to cry.

I have 2 skinned knees.

It does tend to be the older generation - my parents wouldn't drive to & from Leicester in one day (3 hour round trip) but HM came from Wales, to Leicester and back to London after working a 12 hour day... and thanks to floods that ended up as an 8 hour drive

But yes, our dinky little island spoils us with its close-packed riches :)

I probably would have.
I did some amazing arm flailing in my attempt not to fall, and managing to go down on two knees in the rain is pretty spectacular.

Still, their punishment will come :headshake

Wizard of Oztershire

Anon, the house began to pitch, the kitchen, and the loo, took a slitch
It landed on the wicked witch in the middle of a ditch, guvner
Which was not a jolly situation for the wicked witch
Who began to twitch, (bollocks!) and was reduced to just a stitch
Of what was once the blimey wicked witch

:)

Sundae 09-24-2007 03:39 PM

That made me do a really unattractive and braying laugh like BWAH-HAH-HA-ha
Priceless

Shawnee123 09-24-2007 03:53 PM

Yay! I was hoping it wouldn't offend, but I just couldn't pass it up. :)
