Awww sh*t, I'm addicted
Yeah. I think it's happening.
I've been avoiding it for years, mostly all of high school and my first year of college, I just watched SportsCenter. But I don't think I can for much longer. I'm already addicted to the Internet, video games, basketball, 99 cent cheeseburgers at Wendy's and not working out anymore. But last week I watched an episode of The Sopranos that sucked me in so fast. And just now I watched the first 7 minutes of a Scrubs episode but had the will to turn it off and come up here to my room and PC. But I think I'm going to be addicted to TV series's (plural?). I did watch the OC which was engrossing but never since then have I felt a need to remember the times of TV shows. Damn America. |
I feel you. I've never been a regular tv watcher, the idea of scheduling my life around an hour time block at 8pm or whenever wasn't appealing. But this past month or so I've been roped into a couple shows that I have downloaded out of curiosity. Arrested Development, Entourage, Miami Ink, and The Office.
Between these and Halo 3 coming out.. I'm doomed this fall. |
I'm addicted to Boston Legal, CSI, and History Channel:lobstah:

Working nights helps a lot in avoiding addictions like that, but I have a pre-established one to ER and L&O/allof'em. More recent addictions include Top Chef, Project Runway, Top Design, etc. on Bravo.

Oh- geez...mine are so embarassing...I didn't even used to have my tv plugged in (on purpose)- it just looked cool because it was transparent (you could see all the insides).....but now...
I bought all of "The Office" on disc, took the day off on my birthday and watched 9 straight hours of it, just 2 days ago started to get into the ghost hunter show (uuugh I can tell it's going to stick), and "Myth Busters". My addictions are wrong and embarassing. I watch Colbert Monday through Friday and sometimes the re-run that I did not miss the first time. Pathetic early 30's, just married a year, too comfortable, gaining weight syndrome. I thought I was immune....I am not. |
My only really intense TV show addiction was Six Feet Under, but the Sopranos ran a close second. I also love Scrubs. And, sorry, guilty pleasure and I know I"ll get some laughs but I love Friends. It still makes me laugh. Out loud.
Of course, my tastes have changed involuntarily since I dropped cable service. It's amazing how dumbed down I can get...but I still have limits! Which explains the dozens of books I've read so far this year. |
Uh, those are all TV shows you guys are talking about, right?
:pHonestly, I've never seen almost any of them, but only because I've not watched anything since I dropped cable some years back. That's what saved me. BTW, I love your new user title, Shawnee. :thumb2: |
I rely on the collective input of the world's internet users to bring me a synopsis of anything worth knowing; IE any newsworthy event such as the Boston (ATHF) Bomb-Scare, or any television series which has proved to be worthy of wasting the time it takes to watch it.
Netflix, and my five-disc DVD changer, takes care of the rest. I don't have a signal feed connected to my TV. I'm just now finishing up Curb Your Enthusiasm, and I've checked out The Office, Season One, both British and American versions, to see which one I like better so I can start checking out the rest of the available seasons. Staying behind on the current TV shows also saves me the agony of water-cooler conversations about "what was on last night" ... |
There's only one more season of the British Office (and a Christmas special) to check out, so you may as well get that one either way.

I'm telling you, appointment-viewing is for the birds. Tivo, or its non-brand-name equivalent, will change your relationship with television forever. I literally can't remember the last time I watched live TV (and by extension, commercials.) And because I only watch what I want to watch, I never surf anymore, which means my overall watching is actually down.
Things my freeware-running box is currently set to record for me: Colbert Report Eureka Psych Burn Notice Charlie & Lola Battlestar Galactica Okay, you got me, Charlie & Lola is not for me. But the others, I never miss a single episode, so I guess I would qualify as addicted. Except for the part where it never interferes with my daily life. :) |

All my chick friends were hooked to Grey's Anatomy during the school year. Like they stopped studying for tests for a one hour block while it was on. It was ridiculous.

Another unrelated post reminded me I also really like How I Met Your Mother. I hated it the first time I watched it, but at the time I only got the one channel. Now it has grown on me and I crack up. I guess I love ensemble comedies.
