Modern primitive

I'm spending the entire day today naked and hungry.

Okay, I'm doing a fast. A one-day fast from the book the Fast Track Miracle Diet. You have to prepare 7 days for it by eating certain foods that support your liver, colon etc.-- your detoxifying organs; then one day where you drink nothing but water and special spiced cranberry juice ("Miracle Juice"); then 3 more days of broccoli and whatever.

Boy, am I tired of broccoli!

And the naked thing . . . is just 'cause I feel like it. :)

That's funny.....I used to do that on a regular basis. Not for the healing properties or to lose weight........those were actually just my preferences. (including the domestic nakedness) This makes me miss being single and living alone. Oh geez. Of course I realized I was fasting and not eating when I started seeing stuff. Now there is always someone to remind me that I need to start dinner (and that I'm naked).

When I saw the title I immediately thought about the book, Gauntlet, and Fakir Musafar.

so . . . did my fast on Saturday. Nothing but special spiced cranberry "Miracle Juice" and water.

Did not feel hungry at all really, but put me in kind of a strange headspace all weekend.

Now it's two more days of broccoli before I can return to "normal" eating. Hopefully this will give me enough of a break to give me pause if I try to return to bad eating habits.

Am having fun watching all the Exercise TV on demand segments, too!

Still naked?

Cloud 07-09-2007 12:46 PM

not currently, no.

Then I feel certain the diet will not work.

:)

I miss fasting a LOT.
I can't any more because of the meds.
I used to water-fast for ten days a year, every few years for longer.
Hope you enjoy yours.

Cloud 07-12-2007 08:30 PM

thank you, I did.

What benefits did you feel you accrued from your previous fasts?

rkzenrage 07-12-2007 09:14 PM

Mental and intestinal clarity, bout' it. I'm not a spiritual person.

I got an email Sunday from a friend that said she was fasting for a day. I emailed back it was a bad idea, because she is diabetic.
Sure enough, her son found her prostrate and close to a diabetic coma, in the afternoon.
Fasting is nothing to fool with for people with health problems, as it puts a considerable strain on the body.

you're absolutely correct. It can be dangerous. It can also backfire or make you pretty miserable.

although I don't think I have any health condition that would preclude a fast, the plan I followed had very specific foods to eat for a week beforehand, and three days afterward (things like fiber-rich foods, specific protein, etc.), plus a specific juice recipe to imbibe on the one day.

I really didn't notice any ill effects and may try it again. As soon as I can stomach the sight of crucifurous vegies.

You should always talk with your Dr. first. A one day fast really does not do much, physically, for most, but for a diabetic it is a very bad idea.
My 14 day water only fasts always made him nervous, but he never told me not to and read all the lit and monitored me twice the first two times I did it.
I can never do it again for many reasons. I miss it.
They actually took about a month, more if I was eating meat at the time, to actually do. It is a gradual thing, the water-only part is only one aspect of the whole fast. There is a vegetarian, juice, liquid, water-only, stage; then reverse the process after the water process that takes a while.
I did it, mostly, for detox, meditative as well as other (like the removal of internal pests) reasons.
