5/12/2002: First Segway accident

HB's "Extra" image is more interesting than this (I am humbled again!), but anyway --

The first official Segway accident is hereby documented. It happened to a member of the "Central Atlanta Progress Ambassador Force".

According to the rather underwhelming story, the Ambassador in question has injured his knee.

If you're hurt on a Segway, you should be disqualified to be an Ambassador to Progress, since Progress has done you damage.

Given all the hype about the stablity of this thing, it seems almost odd to hear about it having this kind of accident...sort of like a Titanic thing..."God himself couldn't trip that scooter!"

Embarrasing

I feel sorry for this guy. His big claim to fame is he's going to be rembered for falling off one of the most stable contraptions known. I imagine the Segway is pretty safe. Really, imagine how often people get injured from biking / skating / walking.

Still standing

The thing that gets me about this picture is that the Segway is still standing.

In hopes of preventing futher catastrophes San Francisco has banned the Segway. I feel safer, do you feel safer, I feel safer.

Well the HILLS, MY GOD, THE HILLS! The speeds one could achieve, a new Xtreme sport.

Actually, there is that twisty street in San Francisco they are always using for the movies. They probably have cops stationed there full time already just to bust the skateboarders who want to use it, kind of like in Philadelphia.

Lombard Street

The twisty street is named "Lombard Street". It's actually one block of a much longer street. The times that I've taken people to see it, I haven't seen any more cops around than normal. A skakeboarder would kill himself if he tried to get any type of speed down the thing.
