What is a "View"?

When looking at a forum listing, the two right columns are headed "Replies" and "Views." Right now, for example, the "hidden messages" thread has 35 replies and 309 views. I click on the title, read all of the posts and go back to the forum listing. I refresh the listing and there are still only 309 views. Does my view not count?

I thought maybe it was because it was a thread that I had viewed, and replied to, earlier. So then I go to a thread that I've never visited, read the posts, etc., and have the same results.

So, what constitutes a view?

Well, not Rosie anymore.

Try the exact same experiment on a new thread you haven't opened previously.

What I want to know is what a "download" is for an attachment. when you manage your attachments, you can see the number of downloads of that attachment. But that number isn't the same as the number of views for the thread. Not even close, even in a thread where your attachment is in the first post. Maybe it's number of downloads by spiders?

glatt - I tried that. First I opened a thread, read the posts, went back to the forum and refreshed. No change.

Then I opened another thread that I'd never opened before, posted a reply, ...back, refresh... It went from 9 replies, 40 views (before) to 10 replies, 40 views (after). So the reply registered but the view did not.

The "views" counter does not refresh immediately, for some performance reason I don't remember. I think it updates once an hour.

But...I see the "view"s refresh in real time ...???

UT - but what does constitute a view?

It's a view if I agree with you. If not, you've been brainwashed.

The views should be whenever anyone reads the thread. It's possible that you're seeing it via some sort of proxy and thus not actually refreshing the thread at the server level. I dunno.

I don't think your own views count in a thread you've started
