May 15, 2007: Floating naked guy in Milan

http://cellar.org/2007/floatingnakedguy.jpg

Thanks to Wolf for pointing this one out. Yes, it's 70 feet (21 m) long, it's naked, and it's floating - in Milan Italy. And it's a self-portrait by Polish artist Pawel Althamer. full story
Quote:

The work was conceived by Warsaw-based Althamer in 1999 and the Milan installation is accompanied by the artist's show "One of Many," which presents video and sculpture self-portraits.

Flavio Del Monte, spokesman of the Nicola Trussardi Foundation, the show's sponsor, credited the balloon with the high turnout to the event. It has attracted more than 3,000 visitors in its first three days.

Most people have been amused by the sculpture, he said, noting that Italians, surrounded as they are by Renaissance masterpieces, are used to nudity in public places.

I wonder if the placement of the bicyclist was intentional.

glatt 05-15-2007 08:55 AM

Is it anatomically correct?

RellikLaerec 05-15-2007 10:04 AM

If so... Then the bike isn't covering much!

When you're floating, there's shrinkage, y'know.

Palazzina Appiani is the location, not the artist's name, as the quote suggests.

He should do an inflatable sculpture version of Botticelli's Birth of Venus, water and all.

A Dude Dirigible! Oh, the humanity!

Undertoad 05-15-2007 10:47 AM

Thanks milk, corrected. Quick cutting&pasting on my part

I don't really want to know thru which orifice he gets, ummm... inflated.

Cute, but it's not art.

It's Pawel.

Aliantha 05-15-2007 09:11 PM

I think it's crap.

Be more impressive if it was balanced on it's bell-end.

Just curious, what makes it "not art"?

xoxoxoBruce 05-16-2007 12:24 PM

His name is not Art, it's Pawel.
