Question for MySpace users
Hi!
If you use MySpace, how do you handle friend requests? Do you add anyone who sends a request? Only people you know? Only people who seem cool? Personally, I don't accept anyone who is just advertising something that isn't relevant to me, like those websites where you fill out surveys. ESPECIALLY when they're going to post automatic comments on MY page with their advertisements. I try to avoid adding "girl collectors." And I won't add a band if I don't actually like their music. I send add requests to people if I know and like them in real life or on a forum, if they are a dancer or musician I'm a fan of, or, very occasionally, if I just find their profile and think they're super cool (in which case I'll send a message to let them know). However, I have noticed that some people, who are not really famous or anything, have friends in the thousands. Do they have that many real "friends"? Or are they just accepting everyone who requests them, even if it's just a robot account for some scam company? I suspect that, since my profile views increase more when my friends increase, I would get more exposure on MySpace (I'm there for networking as a dancer) if I accepted everyone. But it just seems so pathetic to claim to be "friends" with someone who probably isn't even a real person... what do you do? |
I only add my actual friends, bands I like or "associates"...for example, a local wine bar that the Missus and I frequent has their own page. Every now and then, I get unsolicited requests from people I don't know...I have yet to add any of them, because they're either webcam whores or other types of spammers.

I have one, originally I got it so I could keep an eye on my kids MySpace places. I rarely ever post anything on it. |
It sounds like you're discriminating. Before you object, I intend that as a compliment. You should think about your associations. You're doing well.

I have very few people on mine that I don't know in real life. I even keep my profile private to only be viewed by people in my friends list. I have some bands on there, but I know all of them personally. If I can't figure out who is requesting me to add in about 5 minutes, I don't add, usually.

so whats your myspace case?
actually, try saying "myspace case" 5 times fast |
hey case, you ever on yahoo anymore?
my 'friends' 80% people I know, and then the rest are bands and/or things I like (but actually I have met/will see (in the case of bands) or will in the future.. ie. game of the day giveaway.) I'm pretty selective about it, although Kagen, is that yours that now has a picture of tom with a keg instead of a head? for the record though... http://www.myspace.com/859939 ought to be my page... play nice kids |

Only those I know, a few bands/artists I like, someone who is cool (if they message me first).
Mostly for blogging and just keeping in touch with friends. |
