Moving Back to London
As per the title - I am moving from Leicester back to London. Three years ago I would have laughed in your face if you'd have suggested this - as well as asking who the hell you were. However it makes the most sense of all of my options. Okay, it's the only option I have that doesn't involve winning the Lottery....
I have a friend who lives in a 2 bedroom house in Greenwich, London. It's not a huge house, but it's in a lovely area. He's been a friend since we met at school at 13 and we are on the same wavelength in many ways. He is bailing me out - as he has done many times - by not asking for a deposit, helping me move, and letting me get my feet on the ground before asking for a fair share of the bills. Effectively all I have to do to start with is earn enough money to meet my personal bills (a loan and some minor arrears) and keep myself alive. This allows me to move before I have savings in the bank and not to lie awake worrying for weeks before I move. I handed my notice in here because it is making me really miserable. I wanted to get out as soon as I could, regardless of the consequences, but I was offered a lifeline by the shop I work in on Saturdays. They will employ me fulltime on a weekly basis so that I can meet my rent payments until I'm ready to leave. This gives me time to get the flat clean, clear and organised so I stand some chance of getting my deposit back. So I finish here on Thursday 5 April. I'm having lunch at Halli on Granby Street if anyone wants to come :) Then I have a week off (will log in from the supermarket during that time) and start Whizzy Wheels on Monday 16 April. From then until I move (beginning June I hope) I won't be around much. But once I have moved I will have PC and landline and all the mod cons. Personal bit: The benefits of moving back to London are Company I will not be isolated any more. The bedroom I will be sleeping in is too small to be my whole world. Even at my most anti-social I will be forced to communicate with my housemate. He has experience of people with depression and will never let things get as bad as they did for me last year. Encouragement This friend has believed in me against all odds and still considers me funny, talented and special. He wants us to write together (he has followed his dream and is an inspiration to me) and believes we can encourage eachother Closer to Family It just is, without going into travel details. Closer and easier esp as housemate also has family in my home town. A Known Risk I've known this man for over 20 years. I think we're old enough to get along, or talk things through when we don't. Also, as he is in film & TV it enables him to go away for days/ weeks/ months at a time and know in return that I won't be off down the pawn shop with his collection of DVDs. Because he knows my parents :) |
Well, that sound wonderful! When you do get there, you will need to post videos of your new neighborhood just like the great ones you did of Leicester.
|
It's a new adventure; a new start, and I think things are going to work out wonderfully. I know you will miss Leicester, but who's to say you can't move back someday with a better job, a better financial situation, and easier ways to visit your family.
Kudos to your friend for seeing in you all your great qualities, which you continually show to us fellow Cellarites. |
Do you have a new job in London? Something steady?
|
Do you suspect this "friend" is secretly in love with you?
Because I do. |
i'm thinking that the friend swings another way........but that;s just an out and out guess.
anyway, that sounds great, SG. good gobs of luck. |
Sounds like a good move. Best of luck SG!
|
Sounds awesome SG!!!
I will miss you though :( |
Greenwich is lovely. Right by the River Thames and you've also got that pedestrian tunnel under the river that takes you over to the Isle of Dogs. YOu should try to make a trip down there just before the London Marathon starts - You can be there as they set off by the Cutty Sark, and then even go through the tunnel to see the runners as they reach the Docklands area if you are - a great day and great atmosphere.
Sounds also as though you have hit it right with your accommodation and hope that works out well for you. Keep in touch and Look forwad to JUne when you will be bale to share some photos with us all again. |

Thanks for the luck wishes, people. Obviously I'm here for a little while yet, but even when I disappear I'll definitely be back in the summer. |
Good luck with your new venture, SG. It sounds as though you've thought this through and I really hope it works out for you. Don't disappear, though! Once a dwellar, always a dwellar!
|
Well good luck SG, you will obviously be missed.
|
In some ways, I am utterly jealous because I love London!
|
We can always show up to throw them a house warming party :)
