Untold Tales

Glatt pointed out that BigV hasn't told his kayak construction story and Beestie owes us a Paris story. Any other stories alluded to? Consider yourselves called out fellas.

I'll start then you finish. ;)

Once upon a time....

the end.

As far as I can tell, Jinx was never persuaded to tell her side of Lumberjim's epic story of the summer they followed the Grateful Dead.

This one time I had a tub of Crisco, three bagels and a cucumber...

Noted.

See this stack of pictures (old skool physical pictures printed on paper!)? <points to an album of pictures, about an inch or two thick> Two cheap 35mm autofocus cameras gave there all to record the saga of the the good ship Harmony (death by epoxy is a particularly ugly and painful affair for a delicate machine such as a camera). The record of their noble sacrifice has been immortalized once, but it was built on sand--Geocities--back in the day.

I have not since undertaken the resurrection of the project, although I do have the pics and the captions (and the kayak).

Ok, I'm called out. I'll do some today.

I don't remember any of it.

What you're looking at is my kayak.

Well, in a couple of weeks after this picture was taken, it would be a kayak. Right now, it's about 75 10-15 foot lengths of Western Red Cedar, 3/4" x 1/4". There's also a 15 foot length of Yellow Cedar that was never used, I still have it. And a long 2x4 to be used as the strongback. Oh, and I'm holding the set of plans that will be used as the map from sticks to seas.

Yes, you do. You are correct. I will resist (for the time being) putting in a link like yours to the model I chose. That's because the comparison of Nick's Cadillac Kayaks to mine is...unflattering. My boat is beautiful, to me, but nothing like the jewelry quality work on his site. It was inspiring at the beginning, but discouraging in the end.

Fortunately, I don't judge the quality of the product on the depth of the clearcoat. My boat works just fine, and I love it. But the finish just doesn't compare to his works of art.

glatt 04-20-2007 11:01 AM

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we get it. You're not worthy.

Now, show us some more pictures and tell some more tales!

BigV 04-20-2007 12:38 PM

So, once upon a time, the whole story was on the internets. Any other old farts remember Geocities? That's where it was. And I was able to recover the text of my captions, and I have all the paper physical pictures, (toldja I was oldskool), but that one up there is the only on I have in the computer, any computer. There are two albums of construction snapshots here but only that one has been scanned. I haven't done it yet.

hehehe.. oops. "Is there an echo in here?" here here here... Whoops.
