Just got dugg!
The iotd of lightning hitting a house just landed a front-page on digg.com, where in totally hosed the server in about 10 minutes!
It was even linking to the right iotd, the blog view, and the server got hammered so severely, it couldn't respond. It's coming back now as people have tried to click on it and failed, and so people aren't trying to see it so much, but wow. |
What image of lightning hitting a house?

DON'T CLICK ON IT!

I am redirecting all the traffic for that page to the other server, for the time being. Even just the traffic for the redirection is tremendously high. |
lots of trouble today for me on the Net

How ironic that a picture of a bolt of lightning would smite the server. I was so hosed I restarted my system, neurotically presuming the problem was mine.

I followed the link on this thread and from there to the archives. I thought I'd seen all the IoTDs but I boy was I wrong.
This amused the hell out of me. I can't see the image (booooo) but all the references to sundaes gave me an odd little frisson. Funny how even a screen name becomes personal after a while. Quote:

Yeah, I find it annoying as hell, reading through old and not so old, threads and seeing the dreaded red x. Especially on posts that the discussion centers on a photograph.
Symptom of the times? Throw away society? Instant gratification with no consideration for others? Getting it to work is sufficient, just move on to my next rush and don't worry broken trash left in my wake? :( |
It'll get mirrored very soon which should help.
I haven't done my daily Digging but I'll take a guess as to the title of the post: THE BEST LIGHTNING PIC IN THE HISTORY OF PLANET EARTH - NO, the UNIVERSE - IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOREVER!!!!!!!! or words to that effect. They have a bit of a hyperbole issue on Digg pic threads. |
