Anyone using "Virtual PC" software?
 

I've started building my next super-duper computer. I ordered a nice case, I already have the motherboard and chip set and found a great deal on 2 DVD recorders. All were purchased on sale at very good prices. I'm waiting for a good deal on the memory and some other parts and I'll be ready to start. I plan to install Vista on this one just so I can try it out and learn it frorm the ground up. I do lots of ditigal imaging and run a ton of Adobe and other high end software and I like a pc that handles like a Porche rather then a Ford. And it's a feel good thing when you build it yourself and it really out paces what the local stores are selling. I like the little neon lights in the case too. My wife says it's like Pimp My Ride, only Pimp My PC!

Anyway, my son in law who has all this top level Microsoft Certification and holds a software related job suggested I try using a program called Virtual PC. He sighted several reasons, among them that your operatiing system is more segregated from the computer as far as getting hit by viruses and other threats as well as the occasional visitor who you let use it and they screw up something.

Anyone familiar with Virtual PC?

I don't have any Virtual PC experience, but the Microsoft Vista license prohibits you from running it in a virtual machine unless you buy one of their more expensive versions.

Well that could be a decider. I had planned to buy the PC builder's version of the middle one, Home Premium; it runs for $119.

Or I may just end up waiting until my wife's company buys the developer multi license Business Premium version. That's how I got my Business XP system a few years back. ;)

I use Virtual PC. In fact I use it as the kids' "PC" just exactly so they can screw up the whole "pc" and then it all goes away. But the os on the vpc is xp, not vista. part of the beauty of vista is the display, and the emulated video subsystem in the vpc is much closer to ford than porsche. I have my doubts about running vpc in a virtual environment... the kicker for me would be: to what end? for what purpose?
