One of Dad's Hobbies
1 Attachment(s)
AS some of you remember my dad suddenly and unexpectedly passed away last March. It's been about a year that I've had a short tower of banker's boxes, filled with his letters, short stories, and other ephemera perched next to my computer. I figured I need to whittle through it and toss out christmas cards from people I don't know and preserve the gems for posterity.
Here is a typically quixotic missive from him to Carte Blanche. As often as not, he kept copies of the letters volleying back and forth. Sometimes he won and sometimes he lost. But as in many things in his life it was about the journey and not the destination. |
Nice.

You had some kind of Dad there Foot.

Bravo, my kind of man.:thumb2: You prove the nut doesn't fall far from the tree, too.

That's a great letter, did he ever get accepted? I was rejected a few times by Sears as a young husband and father to be so I wrote them that I had been accepted by Montgomery Wards and would do all my shopping there. I received a Sears card about a month later...

I'm sure he did get accepted. There is another funny series of letters back and forth between him and amex where they cancelled his card, sent him an acceptance letter a week later for a new card, then reinstated his original card. It's more scanning than I feel like doing right now, but you get the idea.

Sounds like Dad enjoyed pointing out the absurdity of businesses' policies to them. I'm sure he embarrassed them by bringing it to their attention. I love it. :notworthy

Wow.
I could never be that creative if given a million years to come up with something. I bet he was a great dad and friend...and came up with some whoppers of punishments for feet that got out of line ;). Thanks for sharing! |
