New Hampshire Outlaws Aliens

Alien plants, that is. As of January 1st, it's illegal to sell, propagate or transport in the state of New Hampshire, Japanese Barberry, Burning Bush, or Norway maples. These three ornamentals have escaped the properties where they have been used to spruce up the yards for years, and have invaded the woods, big time.
Vermont has these three thugs on the "watch" list but Maine and Massachusetts have outlawed them also.

I know PA has laws against Russian Thistle and Multi-floral Roses. In fact if you have them growing on your property, the state has the right to send a crew to eradicate them and bill you.....I'm betting a lot of money.

There have been so many good intentioned imports, plus many more that seemed innocuous until they went crazy and killed people in their sleep. Well, I haven't actually seen that, but this guy at work had a cousin who's babysitter had an uncle....you know, a reliable source. Kudzu, I think it was.;)

It's not just plants, either. Birds, insects and those jumping carp, come to mind. I wonder if Homeland Security could put a stop to more of these invasive species coming in, I mean while they're looking for nukes anyway?

I think I stated my position on Norway Maples.

I think you chainsawed your position on them, IIRC. :D

Considering that the State Game Commission introduced multi-flora, is this the full employment for state workers act?

I'd like to bill them for tubes and tires.

Kudzu

Humor from here I seem to remember some st. college having a campus paper named Kudzu.

Kudzu
By Jane Linton
Covers Dixie Like The Dew
This vine is believed to cover more than 7 million acres in the South. That 'Kudzu covers Dixie like the dew' is no idle statement. Propagating at the rate of a foot (or more) a day, kudzu is like a runaway locomotive. I've heard it said that Southern mothers will keep a close eye on their children while they sleep in the summer to keep them from being choked to death by the night creeper vine...... It's said that a country family went on a two week vacation, and when they returned, the country road which had not been traveled while they were away, was covered with kudzu and they lost their way home...... An escaped prisoner fled into a kudzu patch and is still unaccounted for....

Road to hell, etc.

I was rather hoping the article was about one of the other kinds of aliens, either non-green card holding Mexicans, or, since New Hampshire has a bit of a rep for being wacky, but not as wacky as Vermont, E.T.

I'm an alien. It's quite fun. :)

We have some bad ones here in FL that are outlawed.

If you came in through the front door, you're welcome to be here, thanks for choosing us to be your country of residence.

Oh, you're welcome here no matter how you arrived, monster. Space ship, transporter, drain pipe, what have you. :D

Just the United States' sly little way of telling you that we're color blind.
