Overland to OZ

This sounds exciting...not sure if I'd be able to spend that much time in close quarters with 35 others though...it is quite expensive- works out at almost €6000.

Yeah, I'm not sure about that. That's a lot of ass-time.

Aliantha 01-24-2007 10:17 PM

Holy shit that's a long bus ride!

xoxoxoBruce 01-25-2007 03:59 AM

Or you could bicycle behind the bus.... cough, choke, wishing for seat time.

I'd question how much experience they have:

become one of the few people ever to undertake this epic journey.
Although in reality I'd love to go myself. Damn - the more I look at it the more I want to go, what a fantasic idea. I love travelling. For me the journey (even hours on an aeroplane) is as much fun as the destination. Think how much you would see and experince! Ok funkykule, I don't know you but I now officially hate you for bringing this trip's existence to my attention when it's way out of my reach!

It has fired me up again to do the trek across America I was planning last year before everything ground to a halt. That may come before Forks as my motivation for saving actually...

Somehow, I don't think it would be a good idea for me to take this trip...

I'd get stuck with a bus full of stinky, wheezy people. Nah...

Bullitt 01-25-2007 03:40 PM

That
Looks
Awesome.

At first I was thinking you would have to be crazy to do that. It's a lot of distance to cover in 12 weeks. But if they stop for a day in one spot and then drive for a day and stop for a day, it would be alright. My life isn't really structured for a trip like that now, but if I was single and had 12 free weeks and had the money, I'd do it. It's a trip of a lifetime.

Shawnee123 01-25-2007 05:13 PM

Well, I have to admit, it'd be better than going here:

funkykule 01-28-2007 08:43 AM

Sundae-I'm sorry!
I know its a lot of money and they don't include the return trip. In all I think it'd cost £5000 sterling. If you saved 50 quid a week for two years it could be achievable. Easier said than done!

I am an avid traveller, in my mind at least, and am looking at my options for when I finish my masters. All going well I will be in Africa doing research for the summer months, and will hand in my Thesis in November. So I'd like to travel South America or take this journey, before spending some time in Oz, which is almost a must do for British and Irish twentysomethings.

Glatt- I'm single, I'm 23 but I don't have that kind of money!! not right now anyway, especially if I have to pay for the research trip myself. (Sidenote-I'm applying for funded internships soon and any positive energy you want to send my way would be more than welcome!)

I'll probably have to work for a few months so I think I'll take off in March 2008 if nothing better presents itself. A friend of mine and I have planned our own Dublin-Sydney route, but this type of travel seems safer to me.
The other option is slightly less expensive and would be a year long trip, the Great escapade or Explorer options at the bottom:

I can't wait...

Note that they say from €1375, which is about $1776,...it could rise to about €2500/$3229 I assume. Will ring them on Monday to find out if you want. They are one of the best operators over here.

And it is just for flights.

xoxoxoBruce 01-28-2007 11:00 AM

And you will come back, with pictures, and gloat, I hope. :D

funkykule 01-28-2007 11:06 AM

I hope so too!
