Redtail In The ATL
 

I saw the hawk swoop down and nail the pigeon, and then start feasting on it atop the trainsit station; oblivious to the people milling about. Feathers started floating down is a sort of gruesome snowflurry.

He was eatin away and just when I got up to my office window, he took off.

This pic does no justice to the hawks size; it was pretty big, But the good news is he took off and landed on another window ledge where a coworker took up-close pics of the Redtail really chowing down. I'll post a good one tomorrow.

Maybe I should post a picture of the half-eaten rat the boys found in the yard. We can start a gruesome acts of nature thread.

Well I guess this would be my somewhat gruesome entry.

The populations are increasing in most of our big east coast cities. Lots of food and nesting sites. :thumbsup:

Exactly. Nature is nature. Buildings are cliffs and pigeons are food. It's damn great. The best thing about this particular Redtail was his leggings; fluffy and white, really cool. Even better than the fly girls that walk around the MARTA station (though they are a close second).

Is ATL one of the airports that had a bunch of rehabbed raptors relocated to the runways to keep down the population of small birds to keep them from getting sucked into jet engines and turned into bird puree? Although I don't think redtails will take birds, just ground animals.

I don't know but that is some great alliteration! :)

Once I started I couldn't stop. I actually regretted that "to the" that had to be inserted for the sentence structure, although I guess "runway relocated rehabbed raptor" would work ...

they're very good at bird kills -- in mid-flight.

We have a lot of redtails hereabouts. Every now and then we find a big pile of feathers that used to be a hen.

Promises promises..

We have a huge hawk here and a water crane. ( water crane? )


We have a wildlife refuge for birds but I have been seeing the hawks and the cranes long time before the refuge was even named.
