Windows Messenger be gone - please?
 

OK - I need some help please.

I just set up my new system and Windows Live wont work (wont sign in) and a friend said she had the same problem and was advised to get rid of Windows Messenger.

Problem is, I cant find it in add/remove programs thingie to get rid of it??

Usually, I'm not thick, but I am today obviously. :o

If you have XP;
XP hides some system software you might want to remove, such as Windows Messenger, but you can make it show everything. Using Notepad or Edit, edit the text file /windows/inf/sysoc.inf, search for the word 'hide' and remove it. You can then go to the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, select Add/Remove Windows Components and there will be the software and you can now uninstall it. ;)

I did that, and then had to do regedit and get the little bugger out from under the Current User info.

All fixed :D

i am currently using windows messenger and or msn messenger for the people in my office to message each other. i have about 15 employees. i find that messenger is most unreliable, in that it keeps freezing up, and is VERY slow to "pop-up" or respond to commands. i know almost nothing about computers, i am a mortgage broker. ask me about loans and i know what i'm talking about. does anyone have any suggestions as to a good messaging software that will allow me to communicate with my employees while they are both in the office, and at home?

MSN is the more reliable out of MSN and yahoo IMO, I dont like AIM or the others

One of my customers, who is also a large mortgage broker (PM me and I can tell you more) set up Trillian on several of their PCs to communicate. They can use Trillian to talk with MSN, AOL IM, Yahoo! Messenger, and ICQ contacts.

They have a lot more than 15 contacts, I can assure you, spread across multiple networks.

AIM's the best if you ask me, but if youre going for a multi-messenger like mbpark suggested, I suggest Meebo, which is free and completely online, no download needed.

Trillian is pretty awesome. And automatically records all convos so you can go back and look up things you might've forgotten. But you do have to download it yourself, but you can communicate w/ AIM, MSN and other IM users.
