Handed-Down Recipe

What is a family favorite recipe that has been handed down to you?

For me, it's homemade streudel.

I make the dough from scratch, then fill it with jam, chopped apples, walnuts, raisins, cinnamon & sugar and a squeeze of lemon.

It's a major hit wherever I bring it!!

For me it's Tandoori Chicken. The secret is hand rubbing every piece with garlic, and marinating it in the fridge for 48 hours.
The marinade mix will remain a secret of course ;)

I had a great recipe....but I can't for the life of me find the recipe book ( written by my gran) in which it lives....It's so long since I made it I can't remember the exact make up. Most of it I recall but not all. I have tried many times to recreate it, but it's never quite there and i don't know which bit i am missing *chuckles*

Not sure on spelling, but its pronounced budj ee ah. There are lots of recipes for bhujia ...but none are like the recipe my Gran noted down and (more importantly) cooked on a regular basis.

What's sad is, none of us can totally recreate this dish and Gran's pushing up petals somewhere; none of the recipes I have found online and in cookbooks correspond with that dish.

I really wish I had had a little more sense when I was younger, and not stuffed that recipe book in a box of books, which has at some time meandered off into some faraway place.

Ah well.
