The rim appears elliptical; because, the bowl is canted towards the viewer to offset the weight of the man leaning against the inside of the bowl in the opposite direction.
The bowl isn't against a wall: it's against a mirror. This is why you don't see any fish through the bowl. Some of the fish are viewed directly; but, some of them are just reflections in the mirror. Fish think it's funny to confuse their pets that way.
The "window" the man is looking "through" is a reflection of a picture the fish have put on an opposite wall. The scene never changes, the clouds don't move. Fish like to torment their pets by giving them false hopes of escape.
It's disconcerting that you didn't recognize this trick done with bowl and mirror. It's a fish classic. You seem to be in denial! Have you ever been abducted by fish? I'm sure you'll talk about it when you're ready. :fish::unsure::fish:
